My Experience with Marching Band so Far.

I'm going to keep this short:
I've made friends, and it's fun.
People at my school seem to hate band kids though. I've heard, "Marching band is for people to lazy to take PE" a lot. Also, during Senior night, the marching band and football seniors had their names called out and their pictures taken in front of everybody before the game. When they got through the football players, they started blasting music really loudly, so you couldn't hear the names of the marching band people.
Also, this jerk is really popular. >:[

Depends where you go to.
Marching band's popularity/likeness depends on their chemistry with the football team. I used to march with a band that had really good chemistry with the football team. They wanted us there everywhere we went. And they're very respectful.
But I moved again, and marching bands who aren't so great with the football team are looked down upon. I feel like quiting my current band...
@TheOrange: what is it? playing instruments on the football field?

edit: sorry, that it sounds a little provoking.
Try looking up a marching band practice then tell me that it's just playing instruments on a football field.
At my school, at least, it involves a lot of pushups, a lot of laps, a lot of yelling, and a lot of focus. Playing instruments on the football field is a lot harder than it seems. You have go to an exact place at an exact time with perfect technique or everyone's screwed.
Okay, I changed that so I sound a little less shallow. It's just that I'm mad right now. >:[
our marching band is revered at our school. It's one of the best in Socal (IIRC). That paired with the fact that our school is very musically active means everybody loves the marching band and the football team goes unnoticed (also might be because our football team sucks)
why would you compete over how many friends you have
If you view friends like that they're not really your friends
