Changing college major.

Recently, I have been admitted to a couple of colleges (CSU system). Even though I don't know which school I'm attending yet, I was wondering if I can change my major now as a future student. I declared into an Economics major, but I don't really want to major in it anymore. So yeah... Should I wait until Registration of the school I choose to change my major, or just call in and talk to admission officials about it? Help me, please. ):

It all depends, only the school could answer.

When I was admitted into UIUC's chemical engineering program, it was obscenely competitive (top 2% ACT, top 4% GPA). I couldn't have simply gotten admitted into a less competitive major (such as, say, underwater basket weaving) and then called to be transferred into ChemE. It's 2 different departments with their own rules. Heck, it could even be two different 'colleges' in the same 'university'.

Even other majors, like Chem majors, that wanted to transfer into ChemE after their freshman/sophomore year still had to apply to the ChemE department and meet their demanding requirements.

I would call your admissions officer to ask these questions. If they say you'll need to re-apply and risk not being admitted into a more competitive major, then your best bet is to simply go to school as the 'wrong' major, take a ton of pre-reqs that will also be required by your 'new' major, study hard to get good grades, and simply apply for admission to that new department.

Good luck! And don't worry about changing majors, it's insanely common, but you just want to make sure you have all your bases covered. Getting a degree is all about having every last I dotted and T crossed.

Anyway, what major did you plan to change to?

I'm still deciding on that. I hope to major something in the science field. I went on college confidential, and it didn't really help me that much. :l

you might want to arrange an appointment with an academic advisor/counselor and talk about it

I can't really picture myself with an Economics major. I mean, I enjoy the classes and all, but I don't really myself that successful with it in my future.
You should have applied Calpoly SLO! I just got my acceptance today. You should perhaps check your Pomona acceptance status to see if it changed for you.
Oh. Hahas. Congrats on getting accepted! I just accepted to Cal Poly Pomona today too, and they changed my major, which is a good thing. Still waiting on other CSU.

Write a letter to the office of admissions.

In all honesty, I have no clue. I didn't apply to CSUs or any public schools.

You should be able to change your major anytime you want. If they dont let you at this point, just take classes that apply to your new major and switch next semester. That way even if for a semester it says your first major, you will still be on track classes wise.

aervid is corrent. It is possible to change major after admission (and possibly before orientation) by emailing the office of admissions. Rules for impacted majors in this case usually actually don't apply unless the dean has forbid the admissions office from doing so, but you can only find out if you ask anyways.

@Tonberry: I heard about Cal Poly SLO. I was debating on applying then and in the end, I didn't. I'm waiting on my acceptance on Cal Poly Pomona (since I was considered) so my cousins can help me change it.
@Aervid: The problem is that I want to change my major into an impacted major or go declared.

Changing a major isn't hard at all and some classes that are the second in freshmen series lack prerequisites.
