New to Pokemon X and Y

So basically I've been having that feeling to play Pokemon but I haven't played since Sapphire and Ruby. can anybody give me some tips on what's new? I read stuff about mega evolutions, horde battles and stuff but could someone clarify with me the new stats and stuff like effort values?
+ is it better to get X and Y? or just wait for the new Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire or are they just rehashes of stuff I've already played?

Why don't you just wait until Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby

@GunsTheSparkle: Ah, nothing too exciting in my opinion. It would've been awesome if they added a post-game similar to HG/SS. In that case, I'd probably play the game more than once lol

@VoidWreck: Battle Maison and Battle Mansion mostly. There are few side quests too. Friend Safari. Stuff like that.
Yeah, but post game it's great. Makes making new teams less tedious. I guess they should have made it less effect during the main storyline and then give you an upgrade later.
What do you do in the post-game?
@Senpaishotgg: I get where you're coming from, but I was mainly referring to how you can toggle on the EXP share in X/Y throughout the entire game. By the time you reach the Elite Four, your Pokemon will already be way over-leveled. In the older games, chances are you might have to do some grinding at Victory Road or somewhere in order to prepare yourself for the Elite Four. Of course, those who are looking for a challenge can keep the EXP share toggled off, but still. Technically, there is an option to breeze through the whole game.
To be fair, pokemon has never been challenging in the slightest. Only reason someone would think it used to be hard was because they played old games as a kid so they were worse at them.

EV/IV hasn't change one bit.

Idk about Pokemon ORAS (because it didn't come out yet), but Pokemon X and Y is indeed a new game.
However, it's extremely easier, as they basically carry you to the pokemon league. (Gives you starter, hoenn starter, lucario, lapras...)
But if you want to get a head start on preparing for competitive play, you should research that.

X/Y is a completely new game, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes, but still looks amazing.

Mega Evolutions are basically a real big stat change to the Pokemon, but only very few have it. It changes their appearance and abilities too.

Horde battles are a group of pokemon you can run into, for example you can run into 6 pidgeys in the wild at once, but once again only some pokemon appear in hordes.
