Impacted Major Change Help

I need help understanding how this works or advice about what to do, also sorry for the wall of text

so i am a freshman in college majoring in Chemistry and i want to change it to Engineering Aerospace or Mechanical
the reason i want to change (not that it matters to the uni, i think) is because i took chemistry in sophmore and AP in junior year of high school, so early Senior year we had to send in our applications so i picked Chem and at the time i was just starting AP Physics, but when we started getting into mechanics, electricity, waves and optics i realized i liked it more than Chem and my genius teacher told the juniors in our class that if they were good at this stuff they should get into engineering

so i want to change my major, problem is Engineering is an Impacted Major, and as i understand it, its damn near impossible to change into (harder than undergrad admissions apparently)

I talked to some kid i friended on the first day in one of my Chem GE's and he said that since i was a freshman, id have to take atleast one Quarter/semester of classes (till january) and have a 2.0+ GPA before i can even attempt to change majors of any kind

So what do i do? If i can manage to get a 3 or even 3.5+ GPA does that better my chances at being able to switch majors? Should i join some engineering clubs so i can provide proof that ive shown interest in Engineering? Where should i go to talk to someone about meeting requirements to change majors, Admissions? or like some academic office?
also during Orientation i had to pick my classes and i tried to pick some for the engineering GE's so i can be ready when i switch but apparently i have to take a placement test (i already took the ELM and EPT, they accept AP phys test scores if theyre 3+ but i got a 2) but apparently theres another Math test, idk what its called and idk how to sign up for it, i havent heard anything about it since Orientation, do i go to the admissions office for that?

If i they dont let me switch what do i do? Am i really going to get a Degree in Chemistry instead of engineering just because there aren't enough seats in the main course classrooms? thats BS

i have to go to my next Chem class so ill read the replies later

uhhh you might be between a rock and a hard place on this one. Either way i'd recommend getting the best GPA you can, thats like what all of college basically is, then you can talk to your advisor and hopefully they can help you do something
Talk to your advisor. It depends on uni to uni on how they want to structure their programs and inter departmental change. Take some time to reflect if this is something you really want to pursuit. Because this is not just a maple story character, its your real life.

I don't think I or (any basiler) can give relevant advise.
I do want to pursuit a career in Engineering, ive been reading up all summer on Mechanical Engineering and companies like Boeing and SpaceX and NASA
and some of what ive read is amazing, I kept an "A" in my AP physics class all year, and honestly it was the only reason i even bothered going to school as a senior, the AP test was a B, there was some kid in my class that got accepted to Harvard and MIT and goes to Stanford now and he gave up on it like half way through, or maybe he finished the test in 40 mins, idk

I love science, the only reason i applied for Chem was because i had already taken 2 years of it so i thought it wouldve given me a leg up on everyone else, i didnt really find it all that great but it wasnt boring either, but there is something about the engineering in physics that just makes me want to know more

talk to your academic advisor. no point in studying in something that doesn't interest you.
