What to do for prom?

Graduating highschool this year and I was just wondering what you guys are doing or did for your prom? Did you go in a limo or whatever?
and after prom ? I hear a lot of people rent chalets for a weekend and so forth.
I need suggestions >_<

Don't get a limo. Really expensive and not worth it. You're like 17-18. You don't need it.

My suggestion is to go with a group of friends to a nice place for dinner, go take pictures before prom somewhere nice, and then just enjoy yourself at the dance.
Thank you for taking the time to write this! It was a nice read and I still have the whole year to prepare for it but I want to get ready in advanced. Yeah it's just that i'm still not sure what I'm doing for prom (date or not, after prom, groups) and plus I see that a lot of groups already made their plans, so I was looking for suggestions. Thank you very much!
Don't be afraid to ask a group if you can join them with your date. I'm sure you're all (most of ya'll) are friends anyway.

@Collee
Yes, it's important to participate in your senior activities but if you hold on prom, it's not the end of the world and it's not as life changing as people seem to think. Coming from someone who went to prom.

Here you go. Sorry for the wall of text.

CouponGoddess Prom Guide 2013
Okay so Prom is a big important thing for people in High school and is sort of like a big final party with you and your friends right before graduation.

NOTE: If you do NOT go to your Senior or Junior Prom, it is not the end of the world and you are NOT a loser for not going. Prom is nice and all, but it shouldn't make or break your life. Remember that people who DO go to Prom could be losers (EX. Prom could be the high light of their life). Sorry but if HS is the high light of your life, sucks to be you.

Outfits
It's a Prom, not a hooch club. Try to find something nice to wear but also make sure that you don't spend a LOT of money onwhat you're planning on wearing. You might think people are going to be like "UGH LOOK AT WHAT BASILER IS WEARING! EWW GROSS!". Everyone at Prom looks nice, and if someone actually takes the time to see what you're wearing and judges you, forget them because they're obviously jealous or you're interesting to them to talk about you constantly. Try to spend it on a quality but inexpensive product. If you're going alone, or with a group of friends and not a specific person, you don't have to match with ANYONE if you don't want to but just look nice.
If you're going with your date, make sure I MEAN ABSOLUTELY make sure what color you're going to wear to prom. I didn't tell my date until the Tuesday before Prom what color we were planning on wearing (Prom was that Saturday) and his friends didn't pick a place to eat until that Friday. ALSO ALSO ALSO ALSOOOO make sure where you're getting your corsages because I didn't tell my date what corsages we were getting until the day before Prom and he actually got them last minute. (I'm a horrible date ).
So remember: Quality but inexpensive product

Transport
If you don't ride in a limo it's not the end of the world
If you don't ride in a limo it's not the end of the world

If you don't ride in a limo it's not the end of the world
If you don't ride in a limo it's not the end of the world
I REPEAT....
If you don't ride in a limo it's not the end of the world
You don't HAVE to ride in a limo if you don't want to and if your date is so adamant and touchy about getting one, what a horrible date you have.
If you can't get a Limo, try going with a group of people and pairing with a group of friends maybe 8 people you enjoy their company.
I actually was offered to ride in a party bus with 12 of my friends but my dates ex was in the limo with his date and I did him the solid of not accepting the offer.
You could also ride in a car with friends, ride in a van, or get your date or you parents to take you to prom.
"haha wow coupon ur parents took u to prom?
No, my friends and my date rode in one of my friends vans. But your parents giving you a ride to prom shouldn't be a big deal and you should grow up.

Food
LADIES AND MEN WHO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THIS STUFF: IF YOU WANT TO LOOK 'GREAT' FOR PROM AND LOSE WEIGHT START 6 MONTHS EARLIER.
Make sure to ACTUALLY exercise if you want to fit into that skinny dress or that size 28 slacks.
Decide where you want to eat before prom (If you actually want to eat because trust me, prom food is kind of crap... well at least at my school).
It doesn't have to be super fancy (I went to Mimi's Cafe and it was great) but try to make it nice? I mean, McDonalds is a little... meh but it should be a mutual decision between both the date and the other date.
If you're going with a group of people, make sure EVERYONE agrees on the place. A happy group is a fun group.

Prom itself
So prom is actually going to start!
You don't HAVE to dance all the time, but PLEAAAASE do NOT stay sitting down and acting like a sore thumb.
Guys, (and some girls) if you don't dance well, don't be embarassed because trust me, most of your school probably sucks at dancing and is worried about getting judged too.
Prom queen and king are usually rigged so who really cares about that. (Prom king actually wasn't for us but queen was).

AFTER Prom
So it's all up to you what you want to do after prom. You don't HAVE to "get it in" after Prom, you could just go home and sleep.
No, you're not a loser if you don't go all the way, it's just stupid HS mentality that people seem to have. As long as you and your date enjoyed yourself AT THE PROM, that's all that matters. All of what happens after Prom is whatever. If some loser brags about what he did with his date after Prom, tell his date or insult him because that stuff is really personal and NOBODY cares about what you did after prom.

Remember: If you don't have a date, it's not the end of the world and you're not the only one. Just enjoy yourself, have a good time with friends, and make memories.

Personally, Prom was okay for me. I've actually been to parties that were WAY more fun. But it's still a little thing i'll remember from time to time but it's not my whole life. It shouldn't be yours either.
Make good decisions and don't drink and drive.
Thanks.
This.^
But I'd like to emphasize: don't overspend and don't have crazy expectations. Prom is nothing like what they make it look like in movies. It's basically a repackaged homecoming dance, except in nicer clothes and most people are in your senior class.

I personally did not have much fun at my senior prom (mainly because none of my friends went). But I think it's important to go because I think you should participate in all your senior activities. If not for yourself, do it for your friends.

Prom is not as big as people make it out to be. Talking, eating, sitting, standing, more eating, more talking, more sitting, more standing. Drive date/friends home. Go home. Go to bed.

well me and my friends rented a party bus since there were a lot of us, and before prom started we went to a nice place to take pictures then headed off to prom. Most people rent cottages or go to the beach after and party for the weekend but I just slept over at a friends house since im lame.

Question to past Prom participants:
Is getting a limo a need? B/c I recently got a nice car (2006 Audi A4) and was wondering if I can just drive myself and my date to the prom instead since I heard renting a limo is pricy.

get rufies.

but seriously, imo i didnt think getting a limo was all that great. after prom tho if you want to go to a after party just dont be the one signing for the rent of the chalet or hotel. cause your not gonna get all of your money from the people that went to your party, and people will just come in uninvited and you gotta be responsible for whatever happens

I got my first car 3 days before my Prom. So, I drove there. Well, I had my brother take the car back home just in case I go somewhere else/do something stupid.

Unfortunately, I was the loser who had to go alone because I broke up with my ex months prior. Well, I didn't feel much of a lose at the end of the night.
