Is Philosophy a good major to go into?
Hey, I'm thinking applying to a four year Philosophy program for the next school year. I enjoy learning and reading Philosophy and having discussions on most Philosophy questions.
Good idea or bad idea? The program costs $6,800 per year if you're wondering.

Just as good as any other useless major. If you're not pursuing a rap, sports, crime or business related career then just LOL @ you buddy boyo!
even though the things that @BigHero6 make sense, i wouldnt choose philosophy.
You could literally only become a philosophy professor.
Do you enjoy knowing you're going to be paying money to become homeless?
Unless you want to be involved in academia for the rest of your life.

OP, listen to this guy. I know, because I'm Amazing .
I laughed when I read the title. Does that answer your question?
NO, Philosophy is an awesome thing to study and is very fun, but do not have it as a major. There just aren't enough good jobs for it to be worth while.
Taking Philosophy cores and electives are fine.

do whatever makes you happy yolo
Socrates never made any money.
No. Major in something that makes money, Minor in something you enjoy.
@BreakerZ: Have you looked at Teaching programs to see if Philosphy is on that pathway of w/e school your at? You need to begin with the end in mind. Know what you want to do and work from there.
Honestly, unless you are majoring in something that either teaches you a specific skill (i.e. accounting), or is required for a specific profession (pre-med), all majors are the same in terms of employment. College is really all about networking. So I suggest to major in what you like, instead of something that is supposed to get you a job. A ton of my friends who studied social sciences (sociology, philosophy) ended up with well paid jobs that have nothing to do with their major. Study what you love, make a bunch of friends, and get an awesome job!

I believe most people usually go into teaching. So, teacher most likely? Or I can be the next Socrates.
Think about what kind of job you would want in the future with that major.
I'm interested in creative writing, but that's not a major I would want to get into since I want a law based career.
What do you plan to do with that degree?
