Unlocking phones will be illegal

Seems like the government recently passed a law making unlocking phones illegal. This law basically limit the freedom of the people & benefit some big companies only. It is kinda stupid because people won't be able to use certain phones because they are not available in their phone carrier. What do you think?

Here is a petition a overturn that law, sign it if you are interested

@uiluj4: I am mad that you think saying 200k is just 200k. -.- Doctors surgeons work a HUGE chunk of their lives just to make that money. Most people in the world will never see that kind of money. So seriously its cool if you really make 200k. However you are a total Dark Knight for thinking its only 200k.

To make the link work just get rid of the "s" in "https".

I thought that only applied on contracted phones. Once the contract is up, you're free to do what you please with it.
That's not what I read. If you read the articles on it, carriers are able to unlock phones or sell them already unlocked.
Actually, yes, you are right, although carriers will most likely not do it for you since the law protects them. Or you will have to pay more.
i only make 200K a year, and even i can afford to get a new phone if i switch phone carriers. wuts the prob?
LMAO only 200k a year? That is what SURGEONS make a year. SO ya that is definitely not something to say only about. Considering being a doctor is one of the highest paying jobs out there. No one says a surgeon only makes 200k a year. So you sir are full of crap. Not to mention they spend like 16 years in school. So please gtfudgeout of here with that only 200k a year crap.
What do you mean or how by unlocking it? (Sorry never had a phone before)
in a nutshell, phones are tied to specific carriers (ex. ATT)
by unlocking the phone, you can use the same phone with a different carrier

Forbidding the unlock of smartphones will be as efficient as forbidding the use of condoms
they can't do anything about it

Example, you buy an iphone in at&t, it is usually "locked" so the phone will not work with other carriers such as t-mobil. Once you "unlock" it, you will be able to use your phone with t-mobile, verizon. It also affect phone companies of other countries too, so if you bring a locked phone to another country, you probably can't use it.
This only prevents you from unlocking it yourself. You can just ask your carrier to unlock it for you, or buy a factory unlocked phone.
No, I forgot the details, but it is illegal even for carriers to unlock the phones or sell unlocked phones. Try google and you will see.
this is what america cares about? phones? they should think about the countries health instead unlocking phones.
that doesn't make sense. If America didn't care about their health, then why would the president/congress waste all that time to create Obamacare?
