What happened to the Basil Market auctions?
I haven't played Maple in years, but last time I did, the auctions here were the star feature of the site. At any given moment, there were always hundreds of different items being sold in each server. But now there's hardly anything at all. In some servers/alliances, there's not a single item.
When did the auctions die? Why did this happen?

@ProBlades That's pretty much it. They essentially killed the goose that laid the golden eggs.

Essentially two things have combined to effect the slow demise of both Maplestory and the Basilmarket auctions.
First, the game is over 10 years old (over 9 years in North America) and there's a tendency among game players to gravitate toward things that are new and fresh, and Maplestory is neither of those things. It's had severe technical problems which are only growing worse as the game ages, and that doesn't help retain players either. Added to that, the company which runs the game shows no interest in maintaining or promoting the game or enforcing the rules any longer so players have been leaving in droves for other games.
Second, Nexon has made fundamental changes in the game (to boost profits) which completely eliminate the need to buy and sell low and intermediate level equipment and items. They've made leveling up so trivial that there's no longer a need to periodically sell your old armor so you can buy a new set for your new level because you've already leveled up beyond the next set by the time you blink.
The only items which sell in the FM any longer are NX items and "pro" end game equips. No one wants to buy anything less than "godly" equips because Nexon has changed the game into a single-player arcade game where the emphasis is enhancing your "DMG" through the purchase of lots and lots of NX Cash. Thus no one sells or auctions anything lower than the most "godly" items because they just don't sell. Things which once had great value are now relegated to being NPC'd or extracted for their crystals, or in many cases simply discarded on the ground.
The end result is virtually empty FMs in the game and very, very few auctions on Basilmarket.
It's kind of sad.
@Pavchka Lol.. I remember that..!
I think it might have been the first time the normally reliable Basilmarket "white screened" and I hit Enter several times in disbelief at what I was seeing.
It was like Basil stuttered that night.
So yea, Nexon bs. That kind of stuff is what made me get really tired of the game, so while it sucks that the game is dying it makes me kinda happy to see Nexon is getting backlash for being so greedy. Seems like the game has been on a downward spiral since the potential items update and only recently are people (and more importantly, Nexon) starting to realize just how far down things have gone.
@mmorpg And all of Channel 1 would be full, you'd have to go into Channel 2 to find an open spot. You'd even find shops set up in FM 1-6 on Channel 3.
Now it's like a ghost town.

That is CH1 FM in Scania. Back then, not a single spot was open like in the screenshot. My computer would freeze walking down the FM.
I purchased/looted all the clothes I wanted to decorate my characters o 3 o
So now I have no reason to merch anymore
I miss how my feedback listed the date of each auction completed http://www.basilmarket.com/user/lazylazylazy/feedback

BobR managed a quadruple post once, though. XD

I have seen the rare double post but this is the first triple post I have ever seen on Basil EVER. Kudos to you random Basiler for finally popping my exposure to a triple post cherry. I would like to thank you greatly for allowing me to share this rare and wonderful experience
league of legends/dota/minecraft took over!
ok, i got dis.
-> basilmarket was intended to unite all maplers into one website that provided a forum and listings with no membership cost-> website ads/ mr.b personal funds-> new community
many maplers quit normally (disinterest and time constraints)-> Nexon can't keep them long enough/ can't find new players fast enough-> decreasing activity/population of Maplestory-> less listings on basilmarket
Nexon implements Owl of Minerva to help people find items in the freemarket at no NX cost. -> foundation of basilmarket dissolved.
@cheezydude there is no need for auctions anymore anyway. There's a nx item that costs 10k mesos now. It lets you search the entire FM for the item you want. Also the population is dying. Maplestory is so dead compared to 4 years ago its crazy. Channel 1 fm 1-4 is almost never full in khaini.
Due to Nexon bs? Or do you think it's a natural decline? Maybe people ready to move onto MS2 (lol)? Haven't played regularly in over 2 years so I'm curious.
I've also noticed the main site design has gotten a ton lazier, they don't even prominently feature new content anymore, just cash shop junk. It makes it hard to follow what's been going on, especially since they hide away the patch notes for whatever reason.
Maplestory went from a nice, funny, interesting game where people can have fun and made it a wallet warrior game. You expect people in this day and age to stick around for that? The only people still playing are those who've played for years or bots.
New players have better f2p games, like path of exile to play.
The game itself is declining.
Edit: Is there a way to delete comments? I accidentally triple-posted...
The game itself is declining.
