How badly have I screwed up?

Hey everybody. I'm currently 16 years old, in the 11th grade. My GPA is 3.42 and the only extracurricular I do are a few clubs and Spring Track & Field. I'm currently in the process of studying for the SATS, which I will be taking in January. I'm just wondering, how hard will it be for me to get into a good college? (United States)

@Chup A 3.7 is kind of low for UCLA. The average GPA for UCLA admits last year was 4.39 W(3.89 UW). Of course, you still have a chance of getting in with below average stats. You should work on your extracurriculars (hold a position for your clubs/sports), getting straight As for the rest of the year (UCs don't count senior year grades into your GPA), do well on the SATs, and work hard on your personal statements.

depends on what your standards are...i consider 3.4 good, especially in college.
the high school i graduated from had people with 2.9 gpas getting into ucla </3 it also depends wether your public school is located near a UC which if it was, would up your chances of getting in. Imo you're doing great right now. Before i even graduated high school i just built up work experience and right now im working at an office. not might be your cup of tea but i didn't even attend college and yet still earn 25$ an hour. There are endless possibilities and paths you can take; No one can say you're a failure because you're doing what you want to do. Good luck and I hope you find your path @Chup
I know this is late, but thank you so much
You can get into UCLA with a 3.x from a community college. I have a friend who did so. I thought she was dumb, too; she dropped out of high school and had worse grades than me before going to community college lol
What about a high school GPA? Would 3.7 with extra curricular be sufficient? Also, above 2000 on SATs, taking it twice.
Thanks guys. It's appreciated. I'm just very, very scared. I do want to get into a good school. Definitely not an Ivy League, but UCLA or something would be nice. I just go to a very competitive public school, where everybody is super smart and has an amazing GPA.
I applied to UCLA with SATs scores in the 1990's and cumulative GPA of 3.5 and I did not get in. I had no sports whatsoever, with only music for 8 years, math club, and knowledge bowl. I did get into UW Seattle though, (where I live). Even though GPA and SAT scores seem like the biggest things, it also comes down to your actual application and what you write for the prompts. I wouldn't worry too much at that GPA since you're still in 11th grade, and you have plenty of chance to take the SATs if you're not satisfied with your scores. Just be ready for the applications, especially the essay portions. Best of luck, and don't stress too much~
Basil is seriously the worst place to ask for advice like this.
You're not doomed. The school year just started after all. 3.4 is a very low GPA, so I would strongly recommend studying hard in all of your subjects. Also try and get a bunch of volunteer hours and internships if you can to beef up your application. Get an SAT tutor, but dont devote TOO much time to it. Its critically important; yes, but it can be retaken unlike your other courses.
Second; don't assume you HAVE to go to college. By what I assume, you slipped to a 3.4 because you didn't think school was for you. That's perfectly fine, because if you just get into a college and realize that you're bored and failing, you'll just be wasting a bunch of money. Consider apprenticeships as a second career path or consult your guidance counselor about it.
Since you're a junior and you still have one year left, I would recommend focusing on bringing your GPA up. You are in extracurricular which is already good. And it also depends on which college are you aiming for. Even if 3.4 can get you into many decent colleges, it never hurts to bring it up.

Probably around 10~20% if you're defining "good" by the bottom 50-ish colleges.
More around 0% for the top few xD
