self-pass in ball
im confused about this rule for a typical basket ball game
Is it self-pass if you slam the ball high enough to go over the opponent, run pass them, and pick it up after it bounces back, or will it count as a dribble?

Depends if ur two hands touched it while you attempted to bounce it over ur opponents head, if ya catch it and shoot or pass after bouncing it over you'd be ok, but if you caught it with two hands and brought it down again to dribble I think a ref would call double dribble or even a walk if he sees ur feet doing something like both feet coming to a halt or landing point (a good ref wouldn't call it a walk unless u mess up ur pivot since u r landing or attempting to catch the ball you just bounced over)
Again if u could describe the situation better that'd be great, cuz u could be inbounding or already be on the court (just received a pass) or dribbling then stopping to bounce it over their head with one or two hands (might be a carry depending on ur hands action or a double dribble like i explained above)
I'm just confused as to what ur doing plus I'm on my phone right now so I can give a better example once I understand how ur play went down. U can self pass if u hit it off their back or something, this will give ur dribble back.
only thing that works is a self alley-oop off the backboard, bouncing it over someone and catching it is a carry i think
it's a self-pass by regulation standards but it depends on the refs who are officiating.
still, even if it wasn't a self-pass and the refs presumably let it go during a game, i dont know why any players would even attempt to do that.
lol, sorry for confusing anyone, but this is just friendly 3 on 3s with friends outside

Double dribble?
wat ur describing is a travle/carry. ur not allowed to bounce the ball over people. the rules state that the ball cannot go over the players head.
ok thanks

probably because most of the nba players can dunk, so it'll be easy to steal the ball
