Why Do You Continue to Play?

Warning - HUGE Wall-O-Text Incoming! Plus Rant

[header=start]Why I Play[/header]
I've had some time to look back on my playtime. I use to play the game because it was fun, it was simple, and it had some flare to it that made it attractive. I had local friends that use to play and a fun guild, I was happy.
>.<
[header=addiction]Why I Continued[/header]
Then I became addicted (sort of, I would still stop playing to go hang out with friends IRL). I would be on every day for hours though if I could (I would always have it running at least). Even when my local friends stopped playing I continued. I soon wanted more damage (I don't want to call myself a damage ho because I picked classes like mage and strless gunslinger). Regardless, I wanted to upgrade them whenever I got the chance. I got a nice paying job that I could afford to splurge on NX. I tried ever new class that would come out, every new PQ, every patch I looked forward to something new.

[header=drift]Why I Play Less[/header]
But now I find myself drifting away. The first blow came when my last local friend stopped playing but I still had my guild. Then my guild started to die. But that's okay I loved CWKPQ and how cooperative it was but then that went away.

I got a little motivated to play when some new classes came out, joined a more active guild, and CWKPQ returned.

But then I got HACKED (I actually got hacked before on a spare account but I managed to bounce back). This time though they hit my main account. They took nearly everything. The only things I was left with were hard to sell items, untradeable things, or low priced items that they didn't want to carry. I tried bouncing back but I just couldn't see a big reason to. Sure I want to get to lvl 200 but that's not enough now, the game just seems to be falling apart.

Everything is too easy now. Nexon is spoon feeding its players lvls and items now (literal now too, they give you free lvls). I remember when things use to be hard and you would get a really good feeling of accomplishment. But now, you can get to 4th job in less than a week, a day if you really worked at it.

[header=hate]Summary of Why I am Losing Interest in MapleStory:[/header]
*Got hacked, no friends, dead guild*
-Everything is too easy, no feeling of accomplishment anymore
-Nexon is pumping out so many classes it's ridiculous
-The new classes are always OP'ed compared to the old
-The old classes have to go through tons of patches just to catch up (except pirate and thieves, Nexon doesn't seem to like them and only gave them half as much as the other classes).
-The updates and balances seem to upset the game even more than help
-They let hackers run free
-They are so slow to address any issue, hacking or glitches
-Their "fixes" are nothing but apologies saying "I'm sorry for your loss but we can't do anything. FU buy more NX."
-Customer support and response time is horrible.
i dont play much anymore .... *looks at stack of used nx cards in drawer* ... money wasted
I only feel that way because I was hacked Now it feels like someone robbed my house and Nexon is the gaurd I pay to watch over my stuff and they just sat there and watched it happen. I ddin't see it as wasted money because (at the time) I spent it on something that provided me entertainment, no different than spending money on a movie, going bowling, out to eat, gambling, or on some other game.

@Dausu: Thanks dude, it means a lot. And you're right on everything you said. My one little secret is that I don't have the Reverse gloves. Luckily no one ever notices... I just never wanted to risk needing to scroll my own gloves when I had perfectly good 14 ATT PWGs! And I haven't played THAT long. My NL was made Feb. 8/08, I just decided to go 100% reg-DEX around level 40 or 50. Kinda saved me the decision of when to cap my DEX.

I'm glad that you still remember me though, haha. You're one of the few!

Honestly, I dunno why I continue playing. I've quit twice... But came back. I got hacked at level 89 pre-Big Bang (Big achievement for me back then, slaved away half a summer to get to 70), and that guy was deleted.
I think the fact that, even though my guild's semi-dead, we started up a Facebook group of us, so we can still contact even though a couple have quit playing, and lots are just very inactive.
I played because "endless online" went to hell(because of hackers), i continued playing because of the friends i made.
I've never made a "quit" for longer than 6 days and i've been playing for 2 years, almost 3 now. The boredom surely is a horrible factor, but i was used to play alone anyways so i didn't pay too much attention to it. I am currently in a guild that helps newcomers and aids them, if you want to join and have a high level account you're free to do so, also, doing this keeps me happy, because i know for sure the people in that guild aren't making bad steps. and my friends log in occasionally, so i'm happy with it.
ENDLESS-ONLINE? YOU PLAYED THAT TOO? PLEASE PM ME. <3

Hey, I just met you,
and this is crazy,
but here's my number,
so call me, maybe?

It's hard to look right,
at you baby,
but here's my number,
so call me, maybe?

Hey, I just met you,
and this is crazy,
but here's my number,
so call me, maybe?

And all the other boys,
try to chase me,
but here's my number,
so call me, maybe?

You took your time with the call,
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all,
but still, you're in my way

I beg, and borrow and steal
At first sight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it,
but it's in my way

Your stare was holdin', Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?

Hey, I just met you,
and this is crazy,
but here's my number,
so call me, maybe?

It's hard to look right,
at you baby,
but here's my number,
so call me, maybe?

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad

Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that
I missed you so, so bad

It's hard to look right,
at you baby,
but here's my number,
so call me, maybe?

I've had my Marksman for 6 years now and it's only level 139. I've worked so hard to get him to 4th job and it felt amazing getting there. I was happy enough with that.

These days, it's just too easy. Level potions, 2x, enemies giving insane experience (aliens...)...I made a priest in 6 days with little playing. If I went hardcore, I'd have made it to 120 in a day or two. I've made like, 3 4th job characters with ease. It's quite sad that high levels don't count for much now except for bossing.

Nexon is too busy trying to balance these old classes with the new ones and not really looking at new content. All it is is just revamps of party quests, jobs, or gimmicks that require nx. I'll still play but I won't be on for more than an hour and even then, the only time I'd be on there is to help someone.

Oh well, such a great game gone to crap...

(You call that huge? Standards....)

I continue to play because I still have fun. When I don't have fun it's adios. And then I come back a few months later after playing other games (because I got bored of them).

I hate hard games though... Other than that I agree with you.
Because it gives me satisfaction, I'm proud of having a lvl 140, which is my main, and IMO it gives quite a bit of challenge for a 13-year old boy.
Can I have your number?
Well, i didnt play pre big bang when everything was harder so this is normal to me. And i actually like the new classes. Sure there's a lot of them but what's so bad about that? theyre all pretty even, except demon slayer >.<
Just saying, they're really not that even at all lol.

I got hacked over the weekend and I haven't played since, but I plan on picking it back up this weekend.

I play because it's fun. I don't have any friends that play, and I never have before, so that doesn't make much of a difference to me, though it would be nice if I did have some that played. I do like my guild though.

Well joining an active guild could solve the problem of the "boredom" but getting hacked is what takes all the interest on the game.

To talk with random people.
Anyways all my irl friends no longer play MS, only LoL.
I already hit 200 and deal max damage easily, don't feel like even mu lung dojoing after getting hero gloves several times already.
I randomly afk for free will power and gp and talk with guild members basically.

This game is trash, events are so bad. Things are untradable so I don't feel like doing events.

I don't play!

I'm all for the easy leveling now... It just sucks that no one can tell how much more effort was put into my account than into someone's account who just started recently.

Boredom.
I usually only play when I have nothing better to do.
