I'm asking if everyone still has interest in doing this tournament. We have 9 currently signed up. I wanted to wait for 16 so we could have a 4-round tournament ladder.

The alternative is that we work on some round-robin kinda thing, where everyone plays everyone. Maybe the top 4 players with the best Win-Loss record could move on to a semi-finals and finals round.

Thoughts? Should we wait it out or try a round-robin -> 4-man ladder thing?

@Skyenets: You probably have time. I don't mind waiting to host this, as long as people are still up for it. I don't see this playing out well though. Taking a long time to get entrants, and who knows if some will still be up for the tourney once we're ready to get going

If we don't get 16, then I wouldn't plan on hosting this. There's always other times of year to do this, and hosting for 10 people seems too small

@Archfiendz @DrHye Moody's banned by smogon for the same reason sand veil chomp is banned. If you're going to use moody, your entire strategy is based around hoping for evasion boosts (among others) as frequently and as quickly as possible to f**k over your opponent with your auto-double-team BS. It's entirely based on luck.

No, pokemon battling has some amount of luck to it, but it doesn't focus completely around it the way Moody does. If you're going to allow Moody, why not allow evasion boosting abilities/moves? The only people who want moody unbanned are the morons who are going to try and use it on their teams.

@ColdFridge: Ok so bibarell and smeargle are probably the only moody pokemon you will ever see. First off smeargle can easily be outsped by many pokemon so if you can bring it beneath 25% health (which isnt that hard) its entire strat is ruined. Paralyze it or encore it or use one of the abundant prankster taunters. I mean with ingame pokemon you can see the other persons pokemon so you can easily predict a smeargle lead. Pick a grass type or someone with insomnia or something for the obvious spore. I just don't see how its that bad of a problem and there is a huge risk that smeargle will get bad stats or good then bad. So I am personally not in support of moody being banned.

Removed a few rules, and we can still debate moody. But the current rules 1-4 are all commonly used on online simulators, and the 6th is just for leveling the playing field. Decided not to get any more detailed in terms of tiers just for convenience. I honestly don't think I'd mind allowing moody but we can discuss it.

let me guess, focus slash rattata + endevor + quick attack? chances are that there are also other pokemon on the team that can use priority moves, or multi link skills like rock blast which counters focus slash or are just ghost types, there are so many counters to what you going for it would just be a waste of time. but if you must know there is a species clause in comp battling meaning you can't have 2+ of the same pokemon (excluding meowstic, like probably the only exception to this rule)

Like previous posts sorta stated, I think the rules are what's preventing most people from joining.

I believe every move and ability exists for a reason. If we ban them, what's the point of gamefreak creating them? When will they ever get used in battles? If you don't want to be put to sleep, use a berry, have a pokemon with insomnia ability. If you don't want to deal with evasion noobs, use moves that will never miss.

Also, I believe that luck is part of the game. You don't get critical hits because you play smart, you get them because you're lucky. Same goes to 1HKO moves.

Again, this is just me and I am fine with the rules of this tournament.

Moody is an OP ability. If you don't think so, you've never faced a sub/protect smeargle BPing evasion boosts to threats. Sand rush is allowed over swift swim because every swift swim user in the game barring 2 also gets a power boost to their STAB attacks in addition to their speed boost. Also, only 3 things get sand rush, and 2 of them aren't even good.

Drizzle+Swift Swim should not be banned because Drizzle itself was nerfed imo. The combo isn't as good as it was before.

Moody Clause is just kind of dumb and if your banning swift swim drizzle then why is sandstorm/ sandrush allowed? IMO its should be both or neither (preferably neither).

Yeah those two are [i]juuuuuust[/i] a little over the top. As much as I love regular Kangaskhan, its mega form had ta go. The same can be said for Luke, but I like using it and my opinion is skewed and biased.

@iBattleMages Mew and Celebi aren't ubers as of gen V. For simplicity's sake, we could just say anything gen V uber won't be allowed, and anything confirmed as gen VI uber (plus Yveltal/Xerneas/Zygarde?) won't be allowed either. Just a thought, not sure

@AndyArcherX: One Tyranitar with sandstream and your entire team is dead.

@DrHye: The problem with Pokebank though is cloned Pokemon from previous gens, and other stuff of the sort. You'd also have to determine what's an uber and what isn't (like, is Mew an Uber? Celebi? etc...). As for item clause, that is true but the biggest problem I've seen is someone with many walls just abusing U-Turn + Leftovers.

@iBattleMages Those were basically the rules I had in mind. But I don't think I'll worry about PokeBank users because it's really not a big deal that they have more pokemon available, since others can find them via trading/GTS. Yeah, it's less likely, but I don't think PokeBank is worth banning over

I don't think I'll enforce the item clause either. There are a lot of life orb pokemon and people don't usually abuse the use of multiple items very much, from what I've seen

I suggest the following rules:
* asterisk means that I personally feel they must be added no matter what.

*-Species Clause. Only one of each species per team.
-Item Clause. Only one of each item per team.
*-Sleep Clause. Only one foe can be put to sleep at a time (unless you were forced to do otherwise).
*-Evasion Clause. No using evasion boosting moves (Double Team, Minimize. Can also include Sand Veil and abilities of the like).
-OHKO Clause. No OHKO moves.
*-Moody Clause. No usage of the ability Moody.

*-No Ubers (Ex: Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Mewtwo, Blaziken, Mega Gengar)
-No Drizzle + Swift Swim
-6th gen pokemon only (?). I.E. only pokemon with the pentagon in their stat window. No Pokemon transferred through Pokebank. I think this should be implemented to make it more fair for those who have not played previous games.

I don't have a planned cutoff, but if we can't get more people, I will be super disappointed
