Your thoughts on the government shutdown?

I think both Republicans and Democrats are whiny babies that can't find some agreement that doesn't hurt American citizens. I bet that if they didn't get paid when the government shutdown, they'd find an agreement real quick.

government should permanently shut down, they're useless. the 2 parties fight for powerful and for taxpayers money. they don't care for the people of the country. when they have accountability and actually have term limits and put the interest of the people first and foremost, then we should have one.

Like George W. Bush in both his terms.

Congress doesn't care. They just want to fight within their respective parties.

@DrummerX04: You're coming off as pretentious, you're talking as if you know completely what's going on.
If you think name calling is true, I have no business "arguing" with you.

@CouponGoddess: Well what I said was true, and most people would tend to agree. Also, pretentious doesn't even describe what you made bold.

if America defaults, I can't imagine a situation where riots DON'T break out worldwide. Or at LEAST in all major powers.

That doesn't sound like discussion, that sounds like you being pretentious.

I'm also upset because of lot of the representatives who can't come to an agreement about the budget (regardless of party) don't have as much accountability.. like getting punished by their respective district, or state. They're insulated from this mess (those who work in Congress, and are capable of voting on the budget).

Didn't the Canadian Gov had a small shut down a few years back.
When all 3 parties were trying to kick Harper out and then Harper freaked out and pressed the "Shut down everything button", and no one knew that this happened because it is Canada!

@DrummerX04: Yeah I am an ass thanks for recognizing me.
But I don't remember putting "making threads" I think I meant Facebook statuses... I was in a similar situation with someone on Facebook earlier.
But I guess it still kind of stands.
Wait and see how things pan out.
This seems to happen every other year.
last time government shut down was in 1995
it was expected this year because our lazy government didn't change its budget for the past two years

@DrummerX04: It's not that I'm uneducated about the situation. It's just what I said, there isn't a thing I can do so why worry. Waste of time, energy and thought

@DrPebble: Doubt it, Just because the money is gone doesn't mean that there isn't ways for me to eat, or to survive (if it needs to be that way) But I guess growing ones own food went out of style a while ago, or stockpiling non perishables

You'll care when we default on our debt. The American dollar will become worthless.

It's pretty simple... and it's not just limited to American government either (we Canadians have similarily-idiotic politicians).

Simply put, the Liberals and Conservatives (Rights and lefts, Dems and Reps, etc.) are more interested in screwing over their opponents than actually doing something good for the people. At the very least, it seems to me that whoever is currently in power (the party behind the President in the US and Prime Minister in Canada) are more or less trying to do their jobs and pass things that WOULD (or at least could) be overall beneficial to the country, but their opposition will nitpick every possible plan finding the most minor of flaw to cling onto as an excuse not to do it. They do this, not to "protect the people", but to defame the leading party so when it's time for elections, they'll think that side failed their position and elect the candidate of the other party.

The difference between the US and Canada, however, is that, unless there is a major scandal towards the president, he's in for 4 years guarenteed. The Prime Minister, however, can be ousted in less time if the other parties give a vote of non-confidence, basicly saying they don't think the Prime Minister is doing his job properly. Unfortunately, they think more about just getting the big chair than they do thinking about the interests of the people.

I will say, however... I still think the US government is a bit more childish overall... I don't believe that hiding behind an old set of rules given by people on the edge of war time from an obsolete time in history is helpful when it's literally causing the deaths of countless people every year (I'm specificly referring to the neverending battle for gun control in the US).

Also, if they cant agree in about 2 weeks, America will default on their debt, which will be disaterous to America and the world.
