Looking for these types of anime

Hi guys! Since my knowledge of anime is really really limited, I'm going to search for help for some recommendations on some anime.

I'm looking for anime series (ongoing or finished) with less than 40 episodes with maybe the same or similar plots:
- Music (maybe something like theatrical, singing contest?, or just different music genres in general)
- Corruption (like a character starts out as good then gets bad somewhere along the way?, or vice versa; or just completely bad from the get-go)
- Love story/romance (no ecchi or similar to that)

Open to almost all suggestions but just no mainstream animes and the likes. Also, preferably no robots, or insanely out-of-this-world powers that characters may have. I know anime characters having some sort of power is really common but I don't want to watch something like they have to protect the world, or invade another galaxy, etc. Thanks to anyone who could help!

Macross Frontier has tons of singing but don't expect any of it to be good.

Nagi no Asukara fits several criteria's you're looking for. It also has great OST. I often listen to them while I do other work.

Shinsekai Yori is another great one. Oh man, it put me on the edge of my seat.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is pretty mainstream but I would still give it a shot. Shaft + Urobuchi, what more do you want?
Kids On The Slope
Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad

I haven't seen either of them but I know they're music related, and the people who introduced me to them said they were good
Maybe try those out?

(I did see the first few episodes of Kids On The Slope, but it wasn't for me)
Beck looks to have a nice style to it
@esporteen: Yeah I agree. However I feel like Another gets originality points. I almost prefer 12 episodes though because like Steinsgate... it felt like it had 100 episodes because there was so much information, but didn't take 2 days of non-stop watching to get through. Once animes get to 100+ episodes it becomes kind of ridiculous. They start running out of new things to do, and without bashing... *cough* Naruto/Bleach/One Piece they get to a point where it's like TIME FOR AN UPGRADE TO COMPETE WITH THE STRONG NEW OPPONENT. Friend reads the Manga for Naruto and all this getting new powers and being the reincarnated blah blah blah is just like... what? Bleach it's like DBZ style where he goes and trains for a few episodes and comes out way more powerful. One Piece... okay he's stretchy... where can you go when you're at a couple hundred episodes and basically he still uses the same few moves. Not that I didn't enjoy all three of those animes at the beginning... I just began to lose interest at the repetitiveness. Enough of that rant though lol, as far as Mirai Nikki it has a pretty good twist I think you will enjoy.
Yeah I feel exactly that way on the animes with 100+ episodes. Not saying they are totally bad or not worth the watch, but surely somewhere along the episodes you will lose interest (if you plan on doing a marathon, which I will do) so I tend to just read off the manga. Maybe if I watched naruto or bleach episodes like 2 or 3 years ago and have kept up ever since, the 1 episode per week would have been totally awesome but unfortunately, I just didn't have that much time.

Clannad/Clannad After Story is a great slice of life/romance done by KyoAni based off the Key Visual Novel. It doesn't have corruption tho o.o

It starts off slow in the beginning, but stick through it and you'll enjoy it in the end... and the ost... so good <3
Give it a watch, it's amazing, i recommend 10/10
As far as corruption Mirai Nikki is about as corrupt as I've seen. It's exactly how you describe it without going into detail... good to bad. Music wise? Like Choir music in some older animes I also like. Trinity Blood has those choir musics you can check it out. Romance wise Vampire Knights is good, however gets bad reviews. The reason I like it being in most animes you get the girl, and 2 guys feuding over the girl and she never really picks. In Vampire Knights you don't get left with wondering who she will pick, it tells you... I think it mainly gets bad reviews because there are not crazy amounts of action scenes, a lot of it is character development etc. My favorite anime as of right now, I know isn't on your list... but it's really good and believe you should give it a chance. Steinsgate is on the same level if not higher on the "mind f*ck" level as the anime "Another(also good)" think of it like this. First few episodes you'll be like "what's going on...?" and gradually you'll start to figure what is happening on your own. For example without ruining it... Main character hears a scream. After investigating he stumbles upon a dead body. He walks outside and after picking up his phone everyone around him disappears. Moments later he sees that same woman alive... but things are different. Let me know what you think of them, or if you need any other names. I've actually rated nearly every anime I've watched, by score and reasoning.
Interesting suggestions! Mirai nikki looks really good might watch it soon.

Oh I have watched both another and steins gate! I would agree that they are both good although I expected more from "another" as I felt like it just fell off around half way when the class decided to have two invisible persons or maybe it just went that way because the outcome of the anime would probably be the same even if it had more than 20 episodes as opposed to just 12.

@esporteen: Well my very post kinda suggests that it diminishes the experience of finding a "hidden" gem when it comes as a recommendation from someone else. But you're free to try whatever method you want to find good anime regardless. Just know that it's not so much a hidden gem, but still a potential gem that isn't mainstream - at least not yet.
I see. I thought you were just one of those people that went with the flow of disregarding hyped and mainstream animes just for the sake of it. Well I haven't watched that many music related animes so I can't recommend you any.
As for the corruption genre I forgot to mention this but try Shinsekai Yori.
For the romance I still can't think of any hidden gems either sorry.
Edit: nagi no asakura for the romance there we go.
Thanks! I'm glad I have cleared up my point.
@esporteen: Then if that's the case I wouldn't ask anyone here. Just put in a little effort and find them yourself. You'll walk in with no expectations if you happen upon them randomly on your own instead of with a recommendation, and the experience will be better for "hidden gems" if you do it that way.
I would try this but just looking at random animes, reading the synopsis, then trying to watch it and see if its good would be a double-edged sword; might be good or might be bad. I'm just thinking maybe some people would have similar interests or wondered the same thing here and could share some animes they might have liked as well. Can't hurt to try I guess?
No I haven't watched all the mainstream animes and maybe I have used the word mainstream to vaguely. I'm in no way implying that such animes are bad or should not be watched but I just want to see if there were any animes hidden out there that would also fit the genre pretty well but is not as famous as such.

My apologies if K-On was "mainstream", I just really don't have clues on any musical animes. Would try and see shigatsu kimi wa uso but seeing how its still ongoing, would wait a bit until it progresses more.

And as per the corruption genre, if you ask anyone what would be an example of an anime with someone really bad from the get-go or transitions from bad to good (or vice cersa), a lot of people would say death note; but I already know this or would easily find out through a simple google search.

So overall, I just want to know if there are "hidden gems" right there. Seeing as basilmarket has a lot of anime enthusiasts and the like, maybe some would be able to give some suggestions!

Hope I have cleared up my opinions with this statement and I am in no way implying mainstream animes are bad.
music = try shigatsu wa kimo no uso
corruptuon = death note possibly
love story/romance = shoujo genre so anything from there is basically love story/romance
