Tablet for productivity

Currently i am debating if i should buy the surface 2 or not. It's a bit pricey, but the ability to run office (pre-installed for free) and having a USB 3.0 port on it is great. I am wondering if there is any other window 8 Tablet alternatives, preferably one with office already installed, but at a much cheaper price.

All Android device i have owned, (Phone + Tablets) have consistently lagged after a period of usage. For the surface 2, office is not subscription based, it is given to you for free.

My computer is custom built, so there really isn't a need to upgrade it, and i mainly need a tablet for work. I can't really bring my desktop to work D: although i would love too!

As for the chromebooks, i had completely let it slipped off my mind since it looked like a laptop. I will take a look at it, if it doesn't appeal to me, i will just buy the surface 2. 200gb of Cloud storage is excellent for my area of work.
Doesn't the surface 2 come with 200gb cloud storage and unlimited skype data or something? Because that sounds like a decent deal.
Unlimited Skype for a year, 200GB SkyDrive storage for two years. The S2 starts at $450 (basic model), so if you plan to actually use 200GB of cloud storage and have week-long Skype conversations, it's a pretty good deal.

Though chances are, OP won't.

Google something like "Nexus 7 vs Surface 2 vs iPad" for the comparisons/reviews .
Personally I'd go for Nexus 7 which is a better deal. If you have enough for a Surface, should consider getting a laptop.
In the end, the choice is up to you.

surface 2 is probably one of the best tablet comps out there right now
but for 500 your better off upgrading your current computer imo

Nexus 7 2013 ($230-350) with Google Drive or Quick Office (both free) and a physical keyboard (<$25). I don't know why people insist on using Office when it's proprietary AND costs money; even worse, MSOff is subscription-based now. There are alternatives that are less resource-intensive, cost nothing, can save in Microsoft's godawful file formats (.doc/.docx mainly), and are even more user-friendly.

edit: but the people below are right. If you have the money to buy a Surface 2, then you have the money to buy a decent laptop.
