Christians and Athiest, will they ever get along on Basil?

Hey everyone,

I don't know if its just me, but every time i visit the "chat" section on basil, I happen so see at least one thread based on "OMG GOD ISN'T REAL!" or "ABORTION/RAPE/JLKANVOAIWEJFPOAEWF"whatever... I always go into these threads, see the flamers, see the anti-flamers, and just start laughing. This isn't the "heh thats kind of funny" laugh, no. This is the "LOL HOW COULD THIS GET ANY STUPIDER" kind of laughing. Its just so funny that everyone wants to prove their right or that the other is wrong on the internet. It really doesn't matter, and yet these people just start RANTING and RAVING about some post that someone put up...

Just saying, we need to stop the hate and start the love man

although im guessing your an atheist i totally agree. these arguments may seem pointless but it really has strengthened by beliefs. ive been questioned and even questioned my own religion and looking back at all these arguments, my beliefs are stronger. and who knows, maybe ill have times when i get asked the same questions or judged or attacked in the same way later on. at least then ill know what to do or give a better answer

@below
religious people are also pressured to lose their beliefs, i mean they teach all these theories that go against their beliefs in SCHOOL which they go to everyday. why else is the religious population shrinking. and i think she meant in religious threads. cuz every time i see a thread about religion i always see at least like 5 people saying 'religion is stupidity' or 'religion is fake' or samething like that. obviously not all atheists are like this but some are

no because anytime someone says the word god an atheist will say 'but god doesn't exist'

The silent majority that has no opinion/hatred will always be watching.

Then the... lesserly intelligent bunch will circle-argument all day every day.

Some religious people are OK; the ones who chose it for themselves and choose not to force it upon others.

The ones who tell me to burn in hell for having innocent crushes where I go "dokkyun" and "doki" and "moero" over other girls are the ones who should be reprimanded with the force of gods.

I actually quite enjoy those arguments. They give me a chance to hone my written debate skills.
Only if it happens to be on Basil. I'm not a person who starts religious threads challenging God's existence. For people who want to start these threads, they can expect opinions coming from people.
That's reasonable and everything, but all I'm trying to point out is that, that's not really a person seeking the truth. It's more of a person waiting for the truth to come to them.
I post my opinions and let them be challenged if somebody's up to the task, and weigh viewpoints against opposing viewpoints. The stronger opinion is more likely to be true.
In a place full of teenagers?
If someone is really looking for the truth, I find it hard to believe they'd be searching for it on Basil Market.
Pointless is subjective. If I really think it's worth my time to share my views of the world, it's worth my time. I know it's a daunting task that people who have been downright trained in philosophy has not done themselves. Yet, does that mean that we'll never know?

When we challenge our own beliefs, or have somebody else do so, we can either be more confident in what we believe, or adopt a stronger belief if we find a better one. If both parties are willing to put their time to debate, it's a win-win situation as long as both parties are willing to put their time.

Just as long as the occasional troll doesn't come along and throw some ad hominems at each other.
That's what I'm saying, there's a difference between looking for a debate, and seeking the truth. Whenever you post in such threads on BasilMarket, are you really striving to find the truth? I doubt you'd do that in a place full of teenagers.

I'm going to make a little comic depicting the fights.
Yeah we all need to see it as Personal beliefs. I'm Christian, I also doubt anyone shares my specific ideas, but I'm not gonna bash an aetheist, they've done nothing wrong.
Exactly, I'm Atheist, but if some Christian/Muslim/Jewish/etc. person comes up to me and tells me that, I'm not going to get all self-righteous on them. I probably won't even bother to remember because it really doesn't matter to me and their religion doesn't dictate who they are as a person .
Sorry bro, I put a high value on truth.

If we learn there is a god, humanity will change their behavior according to who that god is.

If we learn there is no god, humanity will spend more time focusing on better things.

Why shouldn't we chase down truth when it can determine the meaning of our lives?
Chasing the truth is different than having pointless debates on BasilMarket.
