Anime

Which anime series to watch next?

Basically I want to know which one is the best out of these options. Honestly, I don't think 600 eps of One Piece is practical, so I might just opt to catch up with the manga if it gets most votes. Here are just some of my personal gripes. Thanks for help.

Hunter x Hunter: hate the character designs, they look silly, like one piece characters. only decent looking character is the white haired dude killua.

Gintama: tried watching like 2-3 times, never got past the 3rd episode, but it's supposed to be good and funny.

One Piece: really long, really don't want to watch this, would rather read the manga. but if it's like naruto, it'd be regretful to miss out on good soundtrack and other stuff that anime has over manga.

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu: i have no clue what this show is about, something to do with spaceships, it's got a good rating though.

Decision: it seems from these comments that HxH's ridiculous rating isn't without merit, i'll start with that, followed by One Piece manga or Gintama. if i have time, i might give LOTGH a shot. Thanks for the insight folks.

Watch all 3, IMO i think One Piece is the best, but i haven't seen Gintama.

Let me say that both One Piece and HxH shouldn't be judged based on first impressions, both are super good.

Major Spoilers, but i think this will get you interested

On that poll, Hunter x Hunter. A friend and I marathon'd it over a week during the summer, absolutely great series

Marathon One Piece manga. You can watch the anime if you want (just don't watch its dub)

@mmorpg
I feel like Gintama would be a pain in the ass to get like History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, because there are so many ova and such.
Yea HxH was something I never cared to watch. Thought it looked too childish and goofy like Fairy Tail and One Piece and it had a lot of episodes (though it just ended at 148 iirc). But I saw a brief video from it and I gave it a "First 5 episodes" shot since I was bored out of my mind, and OH MY GOD ITS SO FREAKING GOOD! Despite how childish it may look (it's intentional), it gets brutal af at some arcs and dare I say steps into horror genre with some scenes being stupid amounts of gore and shock despite how innocent, (mostly)family friendly, and positive it starts out as. The music also can get mega epic as it has a very dark feel to it when things get serious, very similar to FMA: Brotherhood's soundtrack with a touch of Fable's(xbox game) fantasy sound.

What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't be judge it by first impressions. Actually I think that's what the directors want and were aiming for in the first place so that you get mind blown at what the show actually is. First impressions: Looks like a low budget cartoon style anime for simpletons... but in reality it's totally the opposite.

Just my opinions on it.

EDIT: Okay I couldn't help but throw you a small bone at what it really develops to (no spoilers)
You need to give Gintama a chance. 3 episode rule doesn't even apply to here; considering there are more than 250 episodes and the first two are specials? Most people say it starts off slow 20 eps in, but the trade-off is 20 bad episodes for 200+ good episodes.
I guess I've been wrong my entire life for giving anime only a 1 episode chance. I gave Code Geass a 7 minute chance I believe

Logh and HXH are both brilliant(at least I think so), but they are two very different shows. I am of the opinion that one piece is worth it once you get far enough in, but the 600+ episodes are pretty daunting and I wouldn't recommend starting the series if you aren't prepared to sit through a decent amount of it.

Hunter x Hunter is the best shounen there is..... in terms of character development, the plot. Sure the character design is not that great but the world and the detail and story and the depth of the characters is better then every other shounen out there.

Of the ones listed HxH is the best by a long long long shot.

If you want to pick up good animes from 2014. These are the ones in contention for anime of the year:
- Shingeki no bahamut: Genesis
- Sidonia no kishi
- Akame ga kill
- Psycho Pass 2
- Fate / Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
- Mushishi

Sidonia no kish / Shingeki no bahamut are standouts... either of them is the best anime this year they stand head and shoulders above anything out this year so far. There are also good romance and comedy and sports anime but I don't watch them.

i think you should watch HxH 2011 its really good, i'd say the Yorknew Arc is probably the best one and where it starts to be really good except for the Greed Island Arc, it was a snooze fest especially when its coming off of the Yorknew Arc.

regarding One Piece i think like 60% of those episodes are like Filler or something, not sure havent seen it past ep 2

the one piece anime also has really terrible pacing, like 1 chapter = 1 episode bad
so read the manga instead

Definitely HxH. Even though it isn't technically a full story you would be getting a full package compared to One Piece. I would also recommend that you read the manga of One Piece since, in my opinion anyway, the animation is lame, at least recently anyway, and the music I never found special. (Note: This is just from what I've seen by skimming and reviews). Also One Piece isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

the fact that you're mentioning Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu in the same breath as those others...makes me think you'll find it slow/dry/boring etc.
i'd say HxH because it's 1) good 2) great 3) not an insane 300+ episode deal

LOGH (Giga Eiyuu Densetsu).
Get ready for a politically driven story with a lot of warfare.

Lots to think about and it shows the good and bad of an Autocracy and Democratic Republic.
