why should the minimum wage be raised in California?
I'm doing a debate on whether or not the minimum wage should be raised. I'm on the pro side but i wanted to be on the con side. What are some reasons why the minimum wage should be raised? I need some ideas on what i should research on.

@katywashere: yes but it will become even more common place. No business wants to give $15 to expendable workers.

Aren't we already in the process of doing that? o.o
Do economi s
its really bad if there are a lot of unemployed people. If you lower it then company's will have more money and employ more, but this is not always the case.
Hey, what's this debate specifically for ?

I can't tell if those numbers are supposed to seem big or small...yeah, time is money, what of it?
Theoretically, if the minimum wage was raised, then businesses would have to fire more people and/or raise their product prices. Or, the business owner would have to give himself less money, but that's unlikely, and if he has to lower his paycheck too much, what's his motivation for running a business when he's not getting enough out of it?
Pros:
-the people who keep their minimum wage jobs would have more money to spend on crap
Cons:
-prices would increase
-people would be fired (especially those earning minimum wage)
-people wouldn't want to start businesses as much, which is a bad thing
I don't know, that just seems to make sense to me.

cost of living and other things take into effect brother
The primary stance on the pro side of that particular issue usually bars along the lines of minimum wage not being enough to support even one person without living in total poverty.
That said, I'd personally be in favor of a total revamp of government aid (not the disbandment), along with a minor increase in minimum wage.
