I heard programming has better job security and demand, especially in this day and age. I'd try it out. Anyways, you can try teaching it to yourself in your free time.
Programming can also sometimes offer limited options according to one of my friends. Although there is an influx of jobs, a lot of them are just lower end positions. Then again, I'm not in that job market so take what I say with a grain of salt.
Engineering usually teaches you a bit of programming too... unless curriculum is different where you are. Try to convince your parents you're taking a CS minor?
I don't know, my Asian parents start restricting things. They want me to do programming more than engineering.

@LuvYing: if you're better at building the actual structure wouldn't mechanical engineering be better? Or do you mean you're good at the actual circuitry but not programming?

Yo, just try it anyways. The point of post secondary is to learn what you don't know what to do. They teach your how to do all the stuff you want to do, not you gotta know what to do. You can always switch majors.
