Maple Leaf Council

For those that aren't aware, our community manager 'Artasi' started a project, in an attempt to better reach out to the community and involve them in working together to make Maplestory a better game.

He described the councilors' tasks as follows:
"These players will be your go-to players for any issues and concerns you have with your class, as well as any feedback or suggestions you want to provide. They have been directed to assist players as much as possible, as well as gather feedback that can be reviewed by both the Development and Production teams for MapleStory."

In addition, you may contact any of the councilors, using the following contact methods:
- Councillor Contact Form: You can use this form to send a note to the Councillor of your choice. Please leave your contact information if you would like a reply: https://sites.google.com/site/maplestorycommunity/councillorcontact
- Councillor Contact Email: You can send an email to the Councillors by using mapleleafcouncil gmail (no spaces!)

-----------------------

This thread both serves as a public service announcement, so those who are willing, know where to contact each councilor for anything.

Second, I'd like to ask these questions in order to spark an informative discussion regarding the council and our expectations and concerns of it.

- What are your general expectations of this council? Do you think this council can influence future development of our game?
- Will you be using this opportunity to bring certain topics/issues up for discussion? If so, what expectations do you have from doing so?
- How do you feel about the elected councilors, do you have faith that they'll represent your favorite/main class well?

Interesting responses so far. And I agree that there's reason to be concerned, as @singsangsong said, they've been promising to listen to players too many times. But my hopes are that this time, they're serious. They basically have to listen their players, involve them in upcoming content and game updates. Ofcourse, we do want the right people on the council to do this. I've seen previous Basilmarket threads, there already are worries about some councilors, and the MLC hasn't even really started yet! But only time will tell, we'll see what CM Artasi and his councilors can make of this opportunity, and live up to our expectations (and their promises). Hopefully it will be good stuff.
Nice try Artasi's alt account.
Plot-twist: It was a real player that cares all along.

This is farcical.

Are we supposed to introspect about things like the council's leverage over development when Nexon hasn't validated the necessary middle-term?

Nexon NA is Nexon KR's sheep and have always submitted to them. Instill confidence that it won't be the case before mapping out a fairy tale of a feedback loop. Just LOL.

I expect a lot of talk yet very little action. They'll most likely have little to no influence on the current status or future status of the game.

- Will you be using this opportunity to bring certain topics/issues up for discussion? If so, what expectations do you have from doing so?
While I expect our councilors to have most of this knowledge, a lot of this knowledge stems from pre-existing bugs that are years old and still have not been resolved. Other topics outside fixing bugs will probably be discussed put into an idea and then later discarded.

- How do you feel about the elected councilors, do you have faith that they'll represent your favorite/main class well?
I don't know/haven't seen these councilors in enough situations to make any stated judgement on them without being potentially horribly wrong.

- What are your general expectations of this council? Do you think this council can influence future development of our game?

No. Nexon NA has never had any real control over the future of the game, and they never will. That power lies with Nexon KO.

- Will you be using this opportunity to bring certain topics/issues up for discussion? If so, what expectations do you have from doing so?

No. See other points.

- How do you feel about the elected councilors, do you have faith that they'll represent your favorite/main class well?

From what I've been reading, it sounds like the councilors don't really know as much about the game as I would expect them to, and they participate in illicit activities. Why they were chosen - I couldn't possibly come up with a legitimate explanation. My best guess is that there was really never any choice left to the community, and people were selected because they had connections to people at Nexon or to people who were close to Nexon. The councilors should have been people who have contributed significantly to the understanding of gameplay mechanics in MapleStory through the writing of guides or other posts describing the low level details of how things work.

All I'm going to say is that the selected councillors seem to be based off of reputation rather than knowledge. Also, it screams favoritism when several people on the council have had prior infractions (being banned, evidence of buying NX) and still got on, but other people are rejected for those exact same reasons.

Seeing as how this whole thing was supposed to begin on February 9th, I feel it's doomed to fail due to negligence and lack of forethought. After all, it's being run by a 20 year old undergrad in over his head.

- Will you be using this opportunity to bring certain topics/issues up for discussion? If so, what expectations do you have from doing so?

implying nexon has any intention of listening to the playerbase, that which has been very vocal for years about the changes and implementations that have lead the game into the hole that it is.
And even if they are to start making good on their behalf, it's a little late, and can be viewed as a last ditch effort. We would not have this "representation" if the game was not dying, and I think that speaks volumes about who they are.

- How do you feel about the elected councilors, do you have faith that they'll represent your favorite/main class well?

Not really sure, not all that interested in the whole project after being confirmed to have a position, rudely un added on skype by artasi without any mention of the situation after they then decided beginners do not deserve a position, and falsely accused of partaking in "inappropriate" maplestory fan sites without being told which sites these may be, and any chance to fix my now tarnished image.

So, I don't know who the councilors are, but I know they won't be having that much influence over the game, simply due to how they are going to be limited. Some of them may know nothing of their classes, and some might be experts, that does not change the fact that the propositions they have to offer will be filtered and altered to such a point that fits nexons standards. And once it reaches that point, how beneficial are these "changes"?

Good luck and have fun maplers, but do just remember how unprofessional nexon america is, and do not get your hopes up :^)!

Making hackers and botters part of the council doesn't exactly scream "This will be successful!".

It's another one of those "we're listening to the community" from Nexon. This has been introduced way back and still hasn't started. Even if they get this going, I doubt anything meaningful is going to come out from it.

1. I feel like Nexon would use generic comments to satisfy the community. I feel like they would never take the opinions seriously.
2. I won't be. I don't even know who the NL representative is. I EXPECT them to bring awareness to our classes negative aspects but I don't see them doing much at all.
3. I don't have any faith besides some. I don't even know who they are and I don't have trust in them. A popularity contest involving several streamers being elected was so stupid.
