Wow that speed is sweet, and I suppose the prices aren't that much different (heard it was gonna cos 100 bucks a month but I forgot how much quota it gives you). Well I think the main problem for cable is that it costs a lot more than ADSL 2+ and gives less quota as well.

I thought the NBN was only gonna get the speeds up to 100 mb/s but Bigpond Ultimate Cable already provides that.
@TS Wow dang, that's a nice speed. What plan are you on now? The 500GB plan?

@MeshMage: Agreed, Telstra prices are a rip off...but they're generally more dependable in terms of less times dropping out (though it still happens).

@dc10: They're only in a few places so far, Brunswick in Victoria for example. In this case, Tassie's been the luckiest, I think quite a lot of their major cities already have it up and running.
Isn't the government building that thing so we can get faster broadband ?
I think so. I think they already did it... o-o
Pretty sure Aussie networks can't go to 100mbps yet (excluding suburbs with the NBN). Even ADSL2+ only goes just over 20mbps. Getting 33-45 isn't bad actually.

EDIT: Here's what Telstra says about their Ultimate Cable Plan:

I'm guessing all of the reasons in the text bolded are factors as to why your net isn't actually 100mbps.

But I was also proven wrong :O Underestimated cable.

EDIT2: If you're downloading/uploading stuff on say uTorrent, Steam or direct downloads your net would slow down, and therefore the speedtest would give lower results.
LOL totally forgot about this thread. ANYWAYS, no when I connect with an ethernet cable, my speeds go up to 100mbs on speedtest.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1854546315.png - wifi
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1835175002.png - Ethernet or something.

So I guess telstra is right, in a way. Or something. I'm sick and don't know what I'm talking about.

MY DL SPEEDS ARE SO MUCH FASTER THOUGH. ^^

@SoulxMonkey I switched from Optus to Telstra because my internet kept dropping out and the speeds were so annoying... Optus is so much cheaper though. 500GB and unlimited calling for only $109 -Fusion Plan-. I was on that plan for about 2 years... Telstra is so expensive. </3

because speed test is fake
when my internet is capped and by that i mean i get like 10-14 or noteven kbps and if i go to speed test it would show my speed as 4mbps
the best way to check your speed is to download something via internet explorer and on the dialog box it would show you your speed per sec/mins etc

lol, I checked and we actually with Optus now, because for some reason our home phone and broadband isn't linked. Anyway, the plan is "Optus 'yes' Fusion $79" and I get 120 gigs a month. I was downloading Oblivion through a torrent client though, so the amount of seeders probably boosted me a little bit.
Umm, I'm with Telstra and I downloaded Oblivion (a fair few gigabytes) in about a half hour last week. I think I averaged 3Mb/s, but it fluctuated.
Wow 3mb/s? Dang that's fast. I'm with Telstra Cable 50GB plan right now, and getting about 1.5 most of the time, though I have gotten 3Mb/s rarely. What's your plan right now?

And ADSL+2 theoretically gives out 20 megabits per second but usually (by that I mean about 70% of customers) getting 10 megabits per second. The place where I live if I went with ADSL 2+ I'd be getting 5 megabits max.

@TS: what's your plan right now? As in how many gigs per month. personally I think the extra 10 bucks for such a small increase is not worth it. Besides even when downloading, most of the seeders only give below 1Mb/s (well at least on my downloads).

this is my test with a 150gb/month plan with Telstra/Bigpond

though there are 3 people using the network simultaneously - its still slow
(its usually around ADSL 8000)
BigPond Ultimate Cable plans can provide download speeds up to a maximum of 100 Mbps into the home for sharing across multiple users in a household. These speeds are so fast that they exceed the capabilities of many content servers and individual PCs. Average download speeds will be lower and actual download speeds a single user will get will vary due to a number of factors including customer hardware, equipment and software, server limitations, type of content being accessed and number of users online. Download speeds on devices connected via a Wi-Fi modem or network extender may be slower than on devices connected by ethernet cable.
