Is there a way to make my buddy list shut up?
I lag already and on top of that they constantly spam. Way back, I could just individually mute them through a right-click, and not long ago I could just switch to offline mode.
I can't do either of those now (and switching to offline mode doesn't disable buddy chat). Deselecting friend chat in the system options doesn't work either.

Put the annoying ones in Black List.

Well, depending on how many people are on his buddy list and how spam happy they are, it could very well lag his client if his ping is high enough. Remember that messages have to go to the server and then back to him. A high ping can cause those messages to build up and start to interfere with other things like picking up items are damaging enemies.

@PoesLaw: yeah it does still go on but.. but i guess you won't have to see them.
i don't think there's any way to actually stop friends from chatting... only thing you can do is delete those people permanently :[
Go in to yr buddy chat and type this "Everybody shut the funk up!" Press enter and have a nice day!

That just prevents it from showing, but it still processes, so that if you switch back to All you'll be able to see it. As long as it processes, it lags.

There's a friend chat option in settings and deselecting it does nothing, as mentioned in OP.
You can click on the chat tabs to selectively hear the chats. So, instead of "All", you can just hear "Buddy", or "Guild".
