Anime

New to the whole anime thing

Hey guys. Last year when I started college I got stuck with a roommate who watched anime and read manga all the time. When I first met him I was like "oh boy one of these guys" (no offense to anyone but that was my mindset then) but he turned out to be pretty cool. He ended up getting me to try reading a Manga and I did. He told me to read Kimi No Iru Machi and I did and I love it and my whole perspective about the people who watch anime and read mange changed. I find it to be enjoyable and I now see why people like it.

Anyway, my roommate had to leave and I know knowone else who's into manga and anime. The only anime I've watched was back in middle school which were Naruto and FMA (which I loved). I'm not a big reader and I figured I'd watch another anime. Could you all recommend me one to watch? I've never seen myself as a romantic kind of guy, but when I read Kimi No Iru Machi it got to my feels department. Something kind of similar to Kimi no iru machi? So I guess I'd like something "romantic" with feels to it. Thanks in advance guys.

Romance/Drama, huh? I don't really read (manga is where it's at for this genre) any of the het variety, though I do know a few that are supposed to be good.
Bokura ga Ita, and theeeen... I don't really know. /me's brain is inundated with yuri orz

For anime, Clannad, yeah. Kimi ni Todoke is okay, too; SPARKLES AND BUBBLES. Also, Honey & Clover.

You might like the manga Love Roma and Flowers of Evil.
As for anime maybe Kimi ni Todoke, My Little Monster, Sukitte ii na yo, Darker Than Black, or Blast of Tempest.

Mostly I think there's no romance in anime, just unrealistic wish fulfillment. SAO has unrealistic wish fulfillment. I haven't watch much anime tho.
I liked Ouran Koukou Host Club, it felt gay at first then I liked it the more I watched

first off: do not bother with those long ass stories like naruto, bleach, one piece, fairy tard, reborn and few others. while some of them are pretty good (like one piece or hajime no ippo), realistically speaking i dont see the point in spending time watching 300 episodes of something, where you can get the same epicness from smaller animes.
if you are interested, go for manga, it is faster.

my recommendations:
shingeki no kyojin (action, gore = blood, probably the anime in 2013)
gurren lagann (you either like it or hate it, give it a shot, over the top action and epicness)
death note (thriller and many twist, epic too)
cowboy bebop (personally it didnt pull me in like the others, but lots are saying this is good)
FMA: brotherhood (a reboot, following the original manga, FMA derivates at some points. though one of best animes ever made)
daily life of highschool boys (one of the best comedy series i have seen, i was roaring from laughter from this)

bakemonogatari (my personal favourite anime series. this is another like it or hate it, give it a shot. if you like it, it follows with nisemonogatari (which is not as good as bake sadly), nekomonogatari and monogatari series second season, which for me beats it)

Assuming you're an action person with a more normal-anime preference:

Attack on Titan (aka Shingeki no Kyojin)
Cowboy Bebop
FMA: Brotherhood (It's a reboot, one of the few reboots in history that actually are just as good if not better than the original)
Sword Art Online (pretty good but it gets ridiculous amounts of unnecessary hater)

You could try the mangas by the same author of Kimi No Iru Machi:
Suzuka
Half & Half
Princess Lucia

Kimi No Iru Machi has an anime (which is kinda bad imo) and so does Suzuka (which I haven't fully watched so I'm not sure if it's good or not)

Other manga you can try are Nisekoi (has an anime starting Jan 11 or so), Horimiya and Golden Time (also has anime) which are decent romcoms.

Kaichou Wa Maid-sama as dr4g0ns1ay3r suggested is a good pick (is an anime and manga). It's of the shoujo genre, meaning it's directed at a young female audience but shoujo stuff has great (but usually sappy/cheesy) romance in them and a lot of guys read/watch them as well (afaik)
The manga is ongoing btw
I believe it's finished now....or are you talking about Kimi No Iru Machi?
