You're right she is not a princess in the sense that she's not royalty and what not, and you're probably also right about disney appealing to different ethnicities too, but albeit an explanation by disney they still consider her an official princess...it's not a debate for anyone to lose sleep over though haha.

Belle. I loved the movie and when I went do Disneyland first time in 6th grade, the "real" princess character said I was pretty and she started stroking my hair. She was really nice.
So, basically, whenever I think of a Disney princess, she comes to my mind first.

She is an official disney princess, despite not being royalty or marrying royalty, just do a google search, disney considers her an official disney princess.

Someone in my dorm had a poll on their whiteboard on their door for peoples' favorite Disney Princess. Mulan won, but then there was debate on whether or not she was a princess, so that became the next poll.

As for me, I don't know any of them, I think it's stupid

Its been Ariel for ages.
Though I feel I'll be leaning more towards Merida once Brave comes out. She's a brilliant character and god do I have a soft spot for gingers.
