Because most of Basil has bad/underdeveloped taste in anime. It's nothing new; middle schoolers love deus ex mach endings (e.g. Madoka).
And it's these middle schoolers (and maybe high schoolers) that are the loudest when it comes to expressing their opinions. No one on this website is obsessed with SAO, except the 4 or 5 people that keep on circlejerking about how good it is.
It had potential in the first 10 seconds, then it just got bad like every other episode.
They really could have made things more dramatic and not just rush everything, this goes for the whole anime. Pretty disappointed in it as it could have been MUCH better. I thought that the SAO arc (everything up to this episode) would take up all of the 25 episodes and not just 14. If they did that, they could've spent more time on the tiny details of the arc. They would've possibly been able to make the side stories flow much better and even throw in the other few side stories that they didn't include. It would basically give a nicer and more rounded and completer feel to the arc. After all, the anime is named after the game and the basis of the story, at least put some effort into establishing the significance of Sword Art Online on Kirito and friends, it was all because of this game that lead to future events.
Why are people so obsessed with this anime?

It was okay. Makes me want to read the novel more to see what I missed.

The boss fight was practically skipped over... I didn't know what to think about the romance. Maybe a little too overboard for my tastes. Maybe was the voices...
Other than those 2 things, I felt like it was a okay/good episode. Not sure where this leads to though.

Well, in the writer's defense he put a lot more time into an Anime called "Accel World" which he was writing at the same time but started before S.O.A.
But, it really does suck though he definitely rushed through the enough season, I believe it could have easily been 50~100 episodes long instead of just 25.
I was hoping the romance would go a little farther it seems like it was only a tease and to me that was what set S.O.A apart from the other virtual reality game animes like .//hack. I hope if there really is a 2nd season that he/she can devote more time to developing the plot and the characters and reduce every single boss fight to 2~3 minutes.
Well it's not over. You get to see more "knight saves the princess" crap in season 2, when Kirito get his "hax stats" back in the new game he plays.
When he said, "Make it so Asuna can't kill herself for a while," I completely lost it. I wanted to kill the writers with the fury of a thousand suns.
Waiting for season 2.
Asuna's voice is annoying.
