Attack on Titan is the first and only anime I've ever watched (so far, lots of people have been recommending me to watch full metal alchemist brotherhood) and it was awesome. It's only one season long and takes about 10 hours or so to watch and it's all on netflix so it's pretty convenient to watch. I'd definitely recommend it

From a long time watcher of anime... I just gotta say... the classics really are the best starting point... and, if I were you, I'd start with Cowboy Bebop. It's considered one of the best anime of all time and it shows. The characters are believable, the action, fantastic and the music... absolutely legendary.

Mix of popular and unpopular animes that are amazing!

As a first anime, I'd highly recommend Cowboy Bebop, specifically, the dub of Cowboy Bebop. Before I get haters, do note, the dub of Cowboy Bebop is truly amazing, especially Spike's voice. My reasoning for that recommendation is that, especially in English, Cowboy Bebop won't feel too foreign. It's still an anime, yet it feels familiar. Anime has a lot of weird things, so seeing that right away might put you off, but Cowboy Bebop seems to understand the Western audience incredibly well, leading to a good experience for newcomers to anime. It also helps that it's a really great show as well, with some of the best character development I've ever seen, so that's great too.

You gotta Watch Hunter x Hunter (2011) and Yu Yu Hakusho. YYH is older but it still ties with HxH for my favorite of all time. HxH has an older animation as well but the 2011 version is the definitive version to watch.

Start out with the classics

FMA Brotherhood and Magi is good to start off since it's not that long, since Magi is doing it's sinbad adventures right now. Sword Art Online is a hit or miss depending on the person.

I'd say Full Metal Alchemist is a good Anime to start with.
