Pokeman battling

It's been almost a year or so since I had anything to do with EVs and movesets or anything. Smogon's tier list thing isn't even fully released on the main site so I'm not really sure if the structure is as good as before. Can someone catch me up on what's happening around in the Pokemon scene? I'd like to start playing again.

Charizard is just a good mega all around.
Y version is terrifying with 159special attack in the sun. With something like roost, fireblast, solarbeam, focus blast/earthquake you will hit hard.
X is just as terrifying bc fire/dragon is such a good typing on top of a nice ability, attack stat, and the different sets it can do like DD, Bulky DD, and WoW set.
And rocks aren't that big of a deal anymore since defog gets rid of hazards as well.

At least from my battling experience..
Priority users, like Gale Wings, Pranksters, and priority-based moves are as rampant as ever. People still set up entry hazards, but priorities have become common for Gen 6.

@StrikeFreedm: Mega Scizor and normal Scizor have different uses. Actually, if you use Mega Scizor, you typically only run one or 2 sets making you pretty predictable.

I like to run Thief on my Scizors though since it's such a surprise whenever someone sends out a Jellicent on me

EDIT: And yeah, VGC is the setting Nintendo pushes for. Some of the famous PokeTubers have been VGC'ing lately as well. But Showdown and PO are still predominantly singles.

try them out. theyre easy to ladder with and pretty much autopilot
I've been playing this Grass/Water/Fire core with a VoltTurn combo right now and I haven't been doing too bad. I'll check those teams out and see how good they are, thanks.
Charizard Y is pretty common in VGC style battles. But its use in singles is still pretty devestating. Rapid Spin support has also become more common even on teams that have no piercing weakness to it.

The meta this year focuses on bulky offense. A lot of set ups then the cleansweep.
Is singles still most popular way to battle now or is it VGC? I like bulky offence as that's my favourite way to play in 4th gen. Thanks n_n Also is Mega Scizor > CB Scizor?
I used to use a shell smash jolly cloyster holding a kings rock. About 41% chance to flinch with icicle spear that hits 5 times breaking subs and sashes coming from 2x attack at 187.5 base power is nothing to scoff at. Can sweep an entire team but its very frail on the special side
I love Cloyster but it's true it needs some heavy support

I like using darmanitan, it counters a decent amount of the common threats including heatran, aegislash (use earthquake when they king shield which they always do), and rotom wash's that switch into flare blitz get 2hkod unless they are bold, charizard Y, etc.
Is it really worth it to run Charizard now though? It'd rather run Specs/LO Ninetales without investing so heavily into a rapid spinner. Also what new weaknesses did Steel/Psychic gain? Fairy? Kind of sucks since Metagross is my one of my favourites to use and it fell off heavily last gen too..
Good way to put it lol. If he wasn't in every team I would use one in a heartbeat and name him Soul Edge.

You should go on pokemonshowdown its a battle simulator with a chat and you can easily swap out pokemon change EVs and see what teams people generally use. I stopped buying pokemon since diamond but the mega evolution stuff is crazy. Make sure you have a counter for mega pinsir because that pokemon is scary (literally).
Aegislash is only a problem if it's the special attacking variant, imo,

Charizard is pretty good. 159 base special attack sun boosted Fire Blast? Crazy crazy. SR is a thing but you should always have a spinner if you bring anything 4x weak to it.

@DaGhettoBoy: Assuming you're using more than one of the same Pokemon in a team(ie. 2 or more Jirachi's) I can't call your wins legit by any means.

Jirachi also isn't that good anymore since it gained 2 weaknesses in 6th gen along with Metagross.
Don't know.

If all your Pokemon are the same barring a single Arbok, that means all your Pokemon are weak to the same moves. In Jirachi's case, Fire, Dark, Ghost, Ground. Ground also being a weakness to Arbok.

All I realistically have to do is throw out Smeargle, use Spore, set up a Sticky Web in case your Jirachi's are invested in Speed then send out a Charizard, Gengar, Garchomp, or Weavile. Just off the top of my head anyway.

Just get a full team of jirachis
except at lead get an Arbol and max out def and sp/def and have swords dance and baton pass
and for your jirachis put it all Ev's on Atk and Speed
uhmm moveset your most important move is ironhead because with 4x swords dance its either gonna turn out to be a 0hko or a flich then a K/O

yes this team is a very cheap team a lot of people hate when i use this team in OU because its basically an unstoppable team
but my record looks good in pokemon showdown (167-0-3)

Yeah I'm kind of surprised there's no counter play to it but I haven't really played against it before so I wouldn't know. The thing that confuses me the most is Charizard is most used out of everything, and I don't really see why because well.. Stealth Rocks still exist right?
