My neighbor's Japanese and he confirmed it was this. He also mentioned that it's more common to say it in the kanji dialect which would be "shougakusei ha saikou da ze"

if you're really concerned about accuracy you'd be better off posting on the japanese forums on wordreference or something, there might be a specific japanese idiom that carries the same meaning but doesn't translate the same way

but there's better ones in my opinion.
