My Fiance doesnt know I play maple
So guy I'm getting married.
Im gonna skip all the mushy stuff and get to the basics.
1. We are both very involved in Greek life at our colleges (I'm an ATO and she is a Phi Mu)
2. None of my friends play maple
3. I'm a little old to be playing (21)
4. She is wayyyy out of my league http://i49.tinypic.com/16getms.png
But the real kicker is...... She has no idea I play maple.
We both have to finish school (We go to different ones) before we decide where to live and spend our lives.
I have little under a year before she moves in with me forever haha.
Sooo do I tell her (She wont leave me ill probably just get an awkward look and some questions)
Or do I hopefully quit on my own before we move in together. (Its been 3 years of playing soo not looking good on that)
Or do I secretly hide my playing?
Thanks guys for the advice. Happy Mapling!
Edit:
1. I love making lists
2. Ill just start playing one day while were lying in bed and see how that goes.
3. She wont leave me and I never said that she would haha
4. She is my world and she wouldn't get upset if she found out I was playing.
5. Were getting married in October (Dont ask me why I didnt get to pick) So ill be 22 when we marry
6. Also I want kids in a few years (3-4) and I have a 20 hour internship already and will (Hopefully) graduate by then and have a full time job. Maybe that will be when I'll be to old

I think you should be more worried about getting married at 21
maple isn't even a big deal if she loves you (obviously does) this wouldn't have a effect on the relationship it's just a game. she likes to shop, you like to play maple. same stuffs.
She's cute. Well done!
Never hide stuff like this, Because if you're living together she WILL find out and it'll be 10x worse than it actually is. Try to tell her but don't make an issue of it. but for gods sake do not try to hide it! From my experience girls always hate it when you hide things (unless it's a surprise) It makes you seem unfaithful even through it's something dumb like this.
Amazing how there are good looking Phi Mu girls at so many other universities, and ATOs who aren't complete d-bags. Good on you, bro. The world outside Florida is a crazy place.
OT: If you think something silly like MapleStory would possibly ruin your marriage, I'd say it's time to rethink getting married in the first place. Lots of guys do things far more immature and stupid than playing supposedly kiddie MMORPGs, and women tend to be good sports with childish habits and stuff. My neighbor's husband is an impressively-bearded 40something man who still collects Spider-Man comics. They've been married for almost 20 years now.
There is nothing wrong with you. Stay the course.
You should have told her earlier. Simple as that.
I told my girlfriend I play and every now and then she asks what I'm up to in game, or if I did something I think is good (Like leveling/soloing something/pro-merching) I let her know. It makes me happy that I can be open about it. However, real life always comes first. That must be a policy you strictly abide to. I'm sure you do.
You're only 21, and going to be 22. I would not worry about being too old just yet. Maybe when you have kids that will be something to worry about. Always be open and honest, if she really loves you, there's no reason for this to affect the relationship negatively at all. If you're worried about telling her, you have two options. You can either just tell her, which I advise to some degree; if your delivery is off in any way it comes off as a bad thing. Imagine you told her you were gay, that's the kind of awkward conversation that a poor delivery would make, so be careful if you just tell her. Secondly, you can just not tell her and when she finds out just say, "Yeah I play this." She will most likely not care as long as it does not affect the amount of attention you give her. If you pay too much attention to MS, it will wind up like one of those relationships where the girlfriend complains about her boyfriend, "all he does is play call of duty all day." You don't want that.
Have fun!
it's just a game, tell her and be done wit it.
I met my fiancée on Maple, like 4 years back. We quit a long time ago, I've traveled across the world to see her and now we're engaged and living together. Maple is not a bad thing, at all. Me and my fiancée game together all the time just because we like doing so, like said before; introduce her to it. She might like it and if not, no big deal.
:O wow. so intense.
just cut down the maple since your gonna get married, but dude congrats getting married, make that gal happy
I won't even give a proper response. Obviously you're not comfortable with yourself/her and you should have bigger issues on your mind than if she finds out you play a video game.
You should be asking yourself why you feel the need to hide things about yourself from her, etc.
Anybody here who says honesty is key, is an idiot who wont get married because of this game.
Advice from little kids is stupid. What you need to do is, find one of her flaws. So that when she finds yours, they can negate each other. I started playing mapestory again like 6 days ago, after quitting for months and i broke up with at least 3 girls who were addicted to call of duty.
My hero
Quit for real life and Enjoy
You should tell her or else you'll probably make a bad sneaky husband. Also shell make you quit MS if you cant have her know you play cause you'll hide it. Which isnt bad. You could just quit. MS is a video game just get over it theres no shame. edit: albeit a bad video game xD. IF you make a big deal out of confessing she might think its even more odd. You dont even have to tell her really... Just act casual about it and play when you want to, dont hide it nor confess you play MS, it shouldnt make a difference.
Tausz, I'm happy that you're getting married, remember that Maplestory is only a game.
The friends that you made along the way will always remember you during your adventure to 200. I know I sure will. But remember that some things in life are a bit more important than video games, (I know I don't really have the qualifications to be saying that.) Games can be used for relaxation purposes, but don't take them as seriously as you would have before any of this. Just play on the weekends, or when you have a break and want to relax. Just don't try to get another 200 okay? lol
Just because your adventure of Maplestory has finally reached LVL 200, that doesn't mean that your journey has come to a end.
Even though I would like to be selfish and like to say, "Just keep playing either way." Want I am going to say is this.
So why keep a secret from someone you hold so dear? Just give her a chance and see what the outcome is, who knows, she might actually like/want to play with you!
I wish you good luck either way, if she doesn't like the fact of maplestory, or if she does, remember that life even without video games is still a live worth living with the one you love, and that always, we support you Tausz.
Go get her buddy
Don't really think she'll mind, unless she's a total beach.
My girlfriend of 3 and a half yrs has no problem that I play maple. She even has no problem when I say that I bought NX because my pet died, lol. So long as it doesn't consume all your time, then go ahead. Keep playing, and just tell her. So you play an online game. I'm 31 in a few days from now. You're never too old to play video games.
just play the game n let her see u playing it.
Maybe she'll even start playing ms with u XD
>Plays an online game
>Gets divorced over it
Uhhh... I don't think you have much to be worried about
never hide anything. Distrust is the worst possible thing that can come between you and her
write it in your vows or w/e
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
ABSOLUTELY NO
This game is starting to tank. You might as well abandon ship right now and forget you ever played this god forsaken game. Trust me on this one.
Communication and trust is key. If she loves you right now, then she'll love you no matter what, even if you play Maple. Good luck and congrats on engagement.
She's really pretty too! And you guys are super young to be getting married hahah but I have no problem with that.
And don't even worry dude, my cousin who is... 29? Lol he still plays maple from time to time and he has a girlfriend of over 5 years
if you're 110% sure she won't leave you.
get her into playing, then when you make love you can yell noob all the time! ^-^
@StarlaStarly: o shut up about my grammar kid.....your not my english teacher are you?
I think you mean to say.
"Oh, shut up about my grammar kid.
You're not my English teacher, are you?"
Oh, hay Luke. Didn't you quit when you hit 200? ><
Life>maple Period
what is tone down to you?
oh and from research and the past,
most people that play video games especially if they are married end up divorced and jobless O.o
dude dont be a killjoy
my dads 42 and still plays games, but so does mom. get her into games so you can understand each other.
Just play a bit in during a random time when you two are together in the house...
No, tell her now
Thanks that's probably the best written response I have ever read on Basil. Also thanks to all for the suggestions ill probably just tell her and tone down my play time. Also she can barely turn the Tv on right so I dont think she will be interested in gaming haha
Tell her to play with you. =D
What's wrong with playing a game? You're both adults and you'll both have different interests. I'm sure she wouldn't mind you playing any video games as long as you don't prioritize it over important matters.
Only 21 and married. Oh my.
yah, i aggree with what most people said on the first page(or all idk kinda stop reading half page) but yah be honest with her, i told my gf that i play maple addictively, and showed her it wad u guess, shes a 120 Bm now(took a while, but wtv) and we play this before we go to sleep (were 15+16,im older duh)<we dont sleep together (YET) and so yah u should tell her, she will love you the most for telling her the truth, she will hate u forever if you lie to her! DONT DO IT
Lmao, Grats Luke.
If she loves you she would let you continue to play.
Quit dude!
she is very pretty ... but i mean ms really should interfere with your life. I failed last year because of ms. Life>ms.
If your getting married soon, why are you overreacting, she obviously loves you. Playing maplestory would not make her stop loving you. You can tell her about it, she might understand, better to tell her soon, then later. If you are willing to not let maplestory get in the way between you two, or spend a lot of money on it, it would likely not bother your relationship.
wats "greek life"? nd u should quit for awhile. get married, enjoy ur life! then come to tell her. (just dont say u played DURING ur engagment)
well to me its like dirty movies .....my gf probably knows i watch those but so long she doesn't see's it or catches me gazing at it .....im good
omg it would be freaky if you go up to her and go
"i play maplestory"
"OMG SO DO I!"
What is she plays MS too?
@Tauszshes cute
if you still wanna play maple then do so and tell her it's part of your life? It probly won't be a big deal to her anyways
I think it's okay as long as your put girlfriend before Maplestory.
Girlfriend > NX
Average age for Mapling is like 16-25, so your not to old to play.
its just a game, if you aren't even comfortable enough to tell her these small things then your relationship sounds like poop
tell her, and if she doesnt approve then she isnt your soulmate.
Gauge her reaction by saying you play World of Warcraft and go from there
just do what i did the first time i decided to quit. get a store and sell everything in a random fm for 1 meso. whoever gets the stuff gets lucky, and you no longer have the need to play this stupid addicting game. the down side is if you come back you waste more money getting stuff back (like i did)
