A question for all of you

What do you think it means to be an American?

A question I must ask 20 random people for a Sociology paper.

A lot of patriotism.

Sticking up for your own opinion, caring about the country in the patriotic sense a little. Also acknowledging the awesome achievements you have acquired over the years.
I honestly have no idea. I'm not a citizen of the US.

Awesome I'm only 20% of the horribleness you just described. I can admit I'm a little hypocritical sometimes, and I'm overweight according to my doctor (although I can do things like bike riding or jogging for long periods of time with no issues).

The rest though, I don't do at all, especially sports (sports bore the heck out of me).

@OP Anyway, ideally, it would mean being part of a country that shares similar ideals and creates a sense of unity and respect among a very diverse populace. I've heard others ideal being about supporting the government and the military in everything. Being a true patriot.

In reality though being American is closer to being part of a hateful, judgmental society, where very little is agreed upon among the populace. It really does sadden me, how divided our country is and how we're always finding some reason to hate one another (and the media doesn't help). I'm not saying we should all be patriots, zealots, saints, etc., but when you have citizens blaming problems in their lives on others, instead of finding a way to fix their own problems, something really needs to be fixed. We're like the dysfunctional family at family day at the park, we may act like it's normal, but from the outside looking in, we're like a circus act.

That seems like it's Basil's problem more than it is mine. I've been suspended a plethora of times on this site, I know what you're talking about. I just don't really care And obviously others don't too if their willing to stay on this site afterwards.

The American dream. Does it still exist?
This isn't the best place to ask, basil has censored this dying site to the point where honest expression is a ban worthy offense because 'it might hurt peoples feelings'.
Lmao. Asking the students at my school won't produce any better answers than I'll find here or any other forum tbh. This is faster. It's a question that can breed actual decent opinions and scummy ones at the same time. If you don't want to get banned then just don't be a complete troll when you answer it.

No actually. I have to make a paper on other people's opinions on what it means to be American. Sorry for utilizing the internet and thank you for trying.

You were either born in America or documented as American.
