I preffer Death Note over Code Geass.
Death Notes story ends when L dies imo. But disregarding after L dies it is really good.
Code Geass' Kalen is one of the most useless characters ever, she brought the anime down as a whole. It was good but if Kalen was either re-designed or removed it would have been better. Also the major lack of character development, from start to end lelouch didn't change. Similar to Tsuna from Hitman Reborn, he didn't change from the start of the manga to the end.
I prefer Death Note over Code Geass. It took me awhile to get seriously interested in Code Geass, whereas Death Note already excited me on the first episode.
Code Geass is so bad, that it's free to watch on youtube.
Horrible drawing and the beginning was painful to watch (terribly boring..) Death note since the story is easy to get into, and entertaining storyline.
That is not true at all. From all the opinions I've heard about Code Geass, your's was the only bad. And I think you're wrong to the bone on this one because I would say Code Geass was extremely easy to get into, I was sucked into it by the first episode. The very story of a futuristic earth where war divides two groups and an anti-hero fights to restore peace is absolutely brilliant. What really makes him tick for me is his methods of doing so. I don't want to spoil the ending but what he did was GODLIKE. Lelouche is a born tactician, and it is because of Code Geass that I started watching Death Note, which is equally as good, but I would put CG in front of Death Note.
Oh, Death Note was more logic, let's talk about how the guy copied an exact copy of the book.
And Death Note post-L... bleh, not as good. Not that Code Geass was perfect though, at all. Second season was a little worse too, but a lot of important stuff happened
Code Geass does have a similar feeling, but it's in no way the same thing. I prefer it, don't know why, probably because it had a happier/easier to relate to moments. All in all, both are masterpieces, that's for sure.
Both are awesome, but imo Code Geass is better. I also agree that 2nd season of Code Geass was a bit jarring at times, but how the anime ended still blows my mind to this day. Imo Code Geass had the best ending of any anime I watched (and I watched over 200 titles).
I think both shows are great in their own respects. To say one is worse than other is a disservice to the anime itself considering out of the thousands and thousands of anime series these two are basically the top 2 animes listed on MAL.

The 2nd arc in death note was downright horrible in my opinion. The 2nd arc of code geass was no where near the first season however the ending made up and pulled code geass over death note in my opinion. However, L will probably be one of my favorite antagonist of all time. His characteristics were so unique and his weird habits of eating sweets just made it seem like detective L is simply playing around.
Death Note. Mostly because I like the art style better and music. I also watched it first so Code Geass feels too similar to Death Note for me to enjoy.

Code Geass but not by much. Death note's last few episodes was dissappointing without L.

never watched death note but id have to admit that the beginning of code geass is sooo baaadd, although a great and thrilling ending makes up for it.
I'd have to say Death Note. Simply because there's way less fan service to piss me off.

I havent watched either
Code Geass
Fast plot
I like the idea one supernatural power can change so much when done right.

Death Note. Just because the story, it's intricate.
I'd say death note has the more coherent story, the second season of CG was all over the place.
