total damage vs atk and boss damage

I cubed my 2ndary and gave me 9% total damage, that boosts my range by around 8k (im weak) and then i cubed and got 9% atk which only boosts my range by 3k. I always thought %atk is better because thats what everyone says but how come total damages boosts my range but alot more. Also if i want to be able to solo some bosses such as normal gollux should i cube for %atk, %total damage, %boss, or pdr?

Adding onto the above mentioned recommendations, as a Bowmaster you have the following Total Damage % sources:
- 15% from Marksmanship
- 40% from Reckless hunt
- 20% from Hyper Skills that only applies to Hurricane
- 10% Boss from hyper skills that only applies to hurricane

Since no one has mentioned much on %ID, as a BM you may require additional %ID (unlike MM, BMs lack a little bit in this parameter). However unlike %atk and %boss you may acquire this through a variety of sources. That said, your main and secondary weapon should ideally focus on %atk and % boss and your emblem should focus on %atk and %ID.

excluding the Secondary, how much %Total and %Atk do you have?
the reason why people say %Total < %Atk is because of a few things.
1. they're equal if you have equal amounts of both. if you had 0% of both, 9% Total and 9% Atk increases your range by 9%. if you had 100% of both, 9% Total will increase your range from before 4.5% as will %Attack (109% is 2.09x and 100% is 2x, so 2.09/2 = 1.045). however, there are other sources that usually increase your %total, thus making %Total worse in the grand scheme since diminishing returns (as you saw earlier, 100% total means 9% total more is only 4.5% increase). DA/Kanna Link skills are both 10% Total. some class skills are %Total. Reinforce Hyper skills are 20% but are factored (but not shown). you'll usually have less %Attack than %Total so whichever you have less of is the better option to aim for
2. so why not balance the 2? because %Total and %Boss are additive. ie. %Boss IS %Total. so even if you have 0% total and 36% Atk, if you have 60% Boss, then it's the same as you have 60% tota, 36% Atk, 0% Boss. since %Atk is lower, you want to aim for %Atk rather than %Total.
3. also since %Total and %Boss are the same (unless you're not bossing but if you're not, you should be basically OHKOing everything anyways), you go for whichever gives you more. %Boss comes in 25%~40% which %Total can go maybe 12% max.

% attack is dependent off of attack of all your equips and passive buffs and if you do not have high attack equips, it will not impact your range by a substantial amount. Same can be said if you have high attack but are lacking in either % dex or + dex added from equips.

You're going to ideally want % boss if you intend on bossing because total damage is additive to boss damage meaning that 9% total = 9% boss damage when attacking a boss monster. If the 9% total increases your range visually by 8k assume that 30% boss will boost your damage by *roughly (as MANY outlying factors apply) 26,667k (non-visually). There is marginal return however with boss and total that contradicts the visual amount total adds to your range so be aware that realistically, total may not be adding as much as it may show and when attacking a boss mob, the total added visually is deducted and added to boss damage making it a much less significant gain.
