@ninjasmasher: Ohhhhh, yeah I forgot about that.

I just checked my Mac brochure and it says that you need a 90 minimum for consideration. That's a ridic program haha.
Just a quick question to people that know about university
Do universities care about overall average for the year, or the main requirements (subjects) like english, math, science
cause i have religion and i suck so it brings my average down

and also, which university is best for accounting
Well, they take your top whatever number of classes they want and average it. For example, my school is a non-semester school, so they take our top 6 marks and average it, other schools take the top 4 I believe. But also, if you're going to a specific field, you would have to take classes that meets the requirements. Again, for example if you're going into Nursing, of course they would wanna see your Biology and Chemistry mark.

I believe Waterloo has a good program for accounting, or Schulich.
I honestly find that really, really hard to believe.

A 95% average should be able to get you anywhere, easily...
You'd be surprised, my sister's friend got rejected for Health sci at Mac with a 96% average and a crazy amount of extra curricular activities. You'll get on the waiting list with a 95 if you're lucky.
What the hell school is that?

Some of the low-ranked universities are desperate for people with high marks to go to them.

For example, I could have gotten free tuition at Trent (or some other one), (and anyone could with an average above 90%,) but who wants to go there!
Saint Marys isn't terrible, especially since after 2 years of engineering there you have to finish the last 2 at Dalhousie, so it works out the same.

@Snooki: Just going by last year's...

And just talking from experience, I have a 95, and I've been offered scholarships everywhere I applied, and was accepted. Now that's just Western and Guelph, but I don't see how your 94 is any different than my 95, unless you go to a private school where the university has to weigh your mark? I have no clue. My friend got into McGill and he's only got an 89 average.

It's possible, depends on the major.
Like my school is the only public city college that offers Bachelor and Master degree for Occupation Therapy.
The program is very hard to get in, I've know so many people that finish the requirement courses with 3.75+ GPA get turned down or held back due to they only certain amount of students every semester.

They look at your overall GPA, & if you have specific field that you want to get into, then they will look at the specific grade.
I may be wrong, since I'm not in Canada, but that should be a general measurement.

Well known universities in Canada are: McGill, UoT, UBC, UoA, Queens.
UoA is one of the best for medicine studies. Don't really know about the others.

OR you could stay with us in the UC system of education. <3

OT: Doesn't it depend on your field of study?
My average is 96% as of now and I got a $0.00 scholarship from McGill, and the other one's were only 4k/year. You need to have that average, plus be a minority. THEN you'll get money! lol And I have good extracurriculars too!

EDIT: McGill is a good university for Medical stuff. Though I won't be going there because they offered me no money whatsoever. It goes to show that it's just a huge university that doesn't really care who they accept. Do you want to go to a school with enormous class sizes and where no one cares about you?
Just stuff to think about.

I've heard McMaster is the way to go for medicine.
A lot of universities are hard to get into for the sciences/engineering here. One of my friends in Gr. 12 is freaking cause he didn't get accepted to this one uni (Waterloo) and they had 90%+.
Engineering wasn't too hard for me to get into at Dalhousie. 85% average or so, but I didn't have to work to hard for it, and my school was pretty easy.

And yeah, I do agree with Kazum, they will just make you take Physics in university, it's the same stuff as 11 and 12 physics anyways.
You need Physics so you may want to take it. You might also want to improve on your marks, I've seen people with 95% averages get turned down.
For Life Sci in most Ontario schools physics is optional. You just have to take it first or second year. Not sure if this applies for international students but this was a good resource when I was applying.

McGill or alberta are good choices. But your marks won't cut it , you need a 90 minimum average to do good or have a chance to get accepted. I'm not trying to hurt you , but as of right now you barely even have a chance.

What exactly do you plan on doing from the medical field. My 8th grade teacher's wife went to U of M for pharmacy and apparently when she went down to LA or something for some medical thing they let her fly first class and stay at a 5 star hotel for free because she was a pharmacist that graduated from the U of M.

I don't really think this is accurate because U of Regina is higher than Saskatchewan. U of R accepts anyone who meets the minimum requires (excluding nursing; that crap is competitive) and they didn't even look at my extra curricular activities either. I got my acceptance letter like 5 days after applying with my 75% average.

But it's common knowledge that McGill, U of T and UBC and always the top three.

My advice to you, if you want more information on cut offs and stuff is just go to the Studentawards forum.

McGill, U of T, Queens, Western...

The list goes on. Nothing's that hard to get in, but you're gonna want solid marks to get into most programs at any of those.

I'm going for Medical Science at Western next year and I think the cutoff was something like 88%?

Those aren't the best marks to get into those top schools.. my friend and her sister got into Business in UoT, with just a 81-83% average. I even knew someone who didn't get into any Science at the UoT with a 91% average. Like one previous commenter said, it's easier to get in than to stay in. Alot of people drop after their first year, competition too tough for them.

EDIT: Also, with Chemistry being a C, you should really see the minimum average you need for the courses. The school I go to, you usually need a minimum of 75% average for Bio and Chem, unless they state higher.
