A question to the guys
If a girl said to you, "You would be really pretty if you were a girl," would you take that as a compliment or insult? Why?
Edit: State whether you think it's positive or negative.
*I mean this as a theoretical situation. This was not actually said to me.
**I'm a girl, btw.

Sounds like something a girl would say to a guy that's been friend-zoned.
I'd probably just assume they were talking about my hair.. which is longer than most girls I see. I do get complimented on it anyway though.
honestly i wouldt care less. if its from a girl that is a friend i would laugh and make a joke of the situation. if its from a girl that i casually talk to, ill just say thanks and say a witty response. if its a girl that is a stranger, ill just say thanks.
girls have told me that my fingernails are perfect for polishing, wished their hair was dark as mine and speed of its growth after a haircut, and that their weight is constant as mine. i dont take offense from what they say. why? cause that is their opinion. another reason i dont take offense is because i dont get mad at what people call "insults, etc".
neutral, pretty and handsome are so overrused so much that it really has no meaning.
Say "Really? Cuz I was just thinking you would be handsome as a man!"
Depends on the guy hwo says it. But I think its meant negative.
I'd take it as both.
No because I do not have or want to have a female part instead of my male parts. Also I am manly and like being manly. It would honestly hurt my feelings. It is an insult!
I once had a gentleman tell me if I was a girl he would b@ng me. o.0
...yeah.
I'm getting in general that most of you guys would not like to hear it said to you.
@ItzNarutosse I'm a girl
thats like a secret way of saying he looks ghay. insult
Has happened to me before, but don't get me wrong, my physique has nothing to do with it. I'm not really bothered by it, when a girl says that to me, instead I just smile and take it as a compliment.
@LvLYakkul: i'd compare it to misgendering somebody. if i'm a guy/girl, why can't people compliment me as i am instead of making up a hypothetical and complimenting that? it also does come with an air of emasculation or defeminization, whether you think it's a wild implication or not.
unless you're already in good standing with somebody i wouldn't ever say something along those lines because i just can't see it going over well most of the time.
would it be a compliment if i said you would be really handsome as a guy. no its not a compliment
I'd take it as an insult I guess(?) 'cos I am a girl.
I'd take that positively. Actually, I get that quite a bit.
Ofcourse it's a terrible thing to hear something like that as it is basically taking away someone's dignity. The proper reaction though, in my standards at least, would be to accept the remark as a compliment with a pun or witty answer.
Seems like an insult. It's like saying "You aren't very masculine, and I also have no sexual interest in you."
That's exactly what I mean when I tell that to my friend.
@uoid: Yep. LOL.
"Why can't I just be pretty how I am? Q_Q"
Seriously though, a bit of both I guess.
i think its quite negative
"You would be really macho if u were a boy, too"
this is what i would say if a girl said that to me lol

Couldn't have said it any better.
it's fairly insulting
i doubt a girl would enjoy being told she'd make a hot guy either
What it they said, "You would be really pretty if you were a horse"? ._.
You might as well ask them if you could do their nails while you're at it.

My bf tells me that all the time <3
