Does your job suck? What's your dream job?

TDLR; I quit my warehouse job, got a new job and deal with a lot of poop and boogers.

- What are some things that are unappealing about your job?
- What are some things that are appealing about your job?
-----------------------
I used to work graveyard shifts at a dirty warehouse infested with rats that included lifting 30-40 lbs up a wobbly ladder and lifting 50-70 lbs of wooden skids which ain't no easy task for a woman I guess. I got fit, built some muscle, job itself was okay, but the management team was absolutely ridiculous. They picked favourites depending on the individual's personality and not work ethics. No common sense whatsoever, and I ended up quitting after getting into beef with the day time managers. Made some great friends though, night workers are very chill.

Now I work as a caretaker for disabled individuals and as much as I feel privileged to help these guys out, the unhygienic part really gets to me. My usual daily shift includes picking up poop from the floor, wiping diarrhea/colostomy bag leakages, and melting boogers and stained urine/vomit off of my client's walls and surfaces - worry not, my hands are always protected by the rubber. He doesn't even want me around and I can't do nothing about it. I also have to force them to do a recreational activity with me which is awkward. You could hear my crayon scritch-scratching against the colouring sheet in dead silence because nobody else wants to participate.

And technically, I'm not supposed to be cleaning his entire suite while he sits on the couch, smoking and watching. I am supposed to decline support if he refuses to participate with cleaning but my managers are really taking advantage of the fact that I'm one of the newbies. I really don't have a say in that matter unless I want to freak out about it and report it to HR.

One day, I want my own little cubicle in an office with loads of paper work because I dig paper work.

Currently I'm working primarily Shipping at a factory/warehouse. I get around 400$ a week so it's decent to hold off on. But they intentionally hire morons and illegals who put shoe covers on their head everyday and I gotta deal with them. Looking to figure out what I want to do for college.

Dream job wise, I really want to get into Tesla Automotive (there's a plant right here in my city woo!) but I wanna take a class that would do me good. I know it's tough stuff but I got the brains and know how for it, but I wanna take Engineering for college. Problem is my financing and budgeting... I'd assume it's expensive lol. And my aunt is willing to sell her 2014 or 2015 Hondai car with like 80 miles on it to me for $10k. I want it so bad for the gas mileage and that it's like 1/2 or 1/3 of what it really costs but I wanna use that money on College... IDK lol.

I work at UPS putting packages in a truck, it's an extremely physical job and I make $10/hour. EVeryone that wants to work at UPS needs to start at this job. I have to do this for a year+ until I become a driver. The drivers make enough money to support a family so I'm gonna have to stay at crap pay and think for the future

My dream job is anything as long as it isn't gross or too physical, and as long as I have great coworkers.
Or just being a guitarist in a band.

I'm planning on becoming a teacher though, and depending on how ideal my circumstances end up, that could be considered my dream job too.

My only "job" right now is my work study at university. I work in the basement on the library, where people can rent DVDs and projectors and stuff like that. Most people don't even know it exists, so it gets really boring really fast. I usually only actually go there once a week for three hours, cause there is no set schedule. It's horrible.

I had a summer job as a cashier at a grocery store. It was okay, but I was getting paid $7.25 an hour. My least favorite part were my coworkers. The fellow girl cashiers were pretty snobby. My dream job, however, is to work with computers one day. I haven't decided what exactly, but at least I have an idea of what I want to do! And hey, best of luck to you! Cleaning up poop and boogers doesn't sound too fun, but in the end, everything will come together. (Or that's what I've been told.)

Still in school but i work parttime at a warehouse, too. 50kg sacks of cinnamon to stack on pallets, wears you out real quick.

I study computerscience so eventually i'll end up at a nice desk somewhere.

Current job: military police
Pros: less crimes, not quota based, tactical equipment
Cons: low pay, long hours, additional non-law enforcement duties

Dream job: civilian police
Pros: more pay, large jurisdiction, community involvement
Cons: more crimes, more high speed responses, endure blacklivesmatter

@norman897: Chill jobs are the best jobs, no stress, no mess. Good luck on your dream job, working with computers is my dream job as well

My job is pretty chill. Not many customers usually and short hours so I can handle it. Pay is better than my previous job at $7/hour.

My dream job would be somewhere in the computer industry where I can actually code some stuff and make computer programs or something.

@tyrantblade: Wow, not even $10 an hour? Terrible, I'm truly sorry to hear that. My man earns $13 an hour and I thought that was bad. I earn $16 an hour and even that is barely enough for me and my partner. I'm pretty lucky I live in a small city - that gives me better opportunity to find decent paying jobs because of smaller competition. I sincerely hope you find a better job that pays more than what you get paid now.

@windowlegs: Noice! You a gamer?

@nonsonofronz: Awesomesauce, pizza makers are the heros of the world. You sir, are magic! And that is a pretty damn wicked cool job, hell, I wasn't even aware such a job existed...best of luck, dude!

@lettucing: I ain't a fan either but I guess you gotta suck things up to make a living, lol. Repetitive jobs are the absolute worse...every minute feels like an hour. It's always adorable when people meet each other from work, glad it happened to me. And same here, typing is what I do best! Good luck on your dream job!

@allahucakebar: Good for you man, I'm happy for you! Best of luck to you on your studies!

@ecliptic: Great to hear things are going good at work! That's a pretty cool job you've got there too. Quite interesting to see all the different types of job people have that I didn't even know existed.

Yeah my job sucks, not even at $10/hr working 10.5 hr days in a factory, sometimes its better or worse, depending on who i work with and their attitude mostly, also if things are too fast or slow paced

Dream job? Anything where i get paid a better wage and probably won't have to work long hard days

@ilikeanime: Sorry you had to deal with that BS, that's my main reason I quit my old job! What a shame, TSK TSK.

@juxos: Same here gal, games are never fun when you ain't godly.

@sezbeth: Customers are just terrible, that's why as much as I hate dealing with poop and boogers, I at least never have to deal with crazy customers. Night-shift was my best work experience by far - no customers and chill people. I dig!

@omegathorion: That's a pretty wicked awesome job, but man, how frustrating. Nothing more straining than not being able to communicate with non-English speakers. I hope you'll find a suitable job in America which I understand can be a complete challenge. Job competitions suck hardcore!

@lightxtc: Customer service...never again, man. Unbelievable how ignorant people are towards retail/fast-food workers. They think that just because you work retail, you are unworthy and must treat them like a king. Absolutely ridiculous!

@thezigen: We're in the same boat! My old job was so much cooler as well, the people, the job itself. I enjoyed it but I couldn't take the managers anymore. I wish you the best of luck on pursuing your dreams!

@chgnz: Glad to hear! It's always nice to hear people who have true leaders and not money-greedy bosses. Very refreshing. Urban architecture is absolutely amazing. Perhaps you can come to Canada and design some sweet designs for us!

I work as a labourer under a builder. You're doing different jobs everyday so the physical demand varies. The tradesmen are some of the most down to earth people. The boss is also very casual and as long as we get the work done, he's pretty cool about it.

I do it as part of the Master of Architecture programme requirements (which needs you to complete 480 working hours.) I'm not sure where I want to go - whether it'll be in architecture at all. If it's anything, it'd probably be in urban design because that seems to be where the New Zealand market is heading. I also enjoy the challenges that come along with urban design.

Work in retail. People can be very demanding and expect you to hand them things on a silver platter.

Working as a writer for a startup game company. It's kind of rough. First, pretty much no one in the company speaks English as a first language, so I have to dumb down my stories a lot to make them readable. Second, my boss still holds the creative direction, so he can just shut down my lore whenever he thinks it doesn't align with his vision. Third, the company is in Switzerland and I am in America, so meetings are hard to coordinate.

I did some accounting work at a grocery store through high school/community college; it wasn't terrible, but having to go out on floor was a bit of a nuisance, as I don't tolerate the nonsense associated with customer service very well. Pay wasn't too bad though; about $11/h, which is pretty good for a 15-17 year old.

Once I finished my dual enrollment and moved onto a university, I began tutoring mathematics at their math center (though, I was already doing this during my dual enrollment for about 5-8 hours a week for extra cash) and I eventually landed TA and RA positions for a couple semesters before I finished undergrad. Those times were actually quite enjoyable, dare I say, the best of times before my current position.

Now, I just finished the first semester of graduate school, already TAed three courses this semester (was able to start earlier because of my previous experience)and am living off a solid stipend while I work toward my PhD. I generally plan to remain in academia despite limited income potential, because it's the one thing I can see myself doing for the rest of my life. A tenure position at a decent research university (though, I will aim as high as I possibly can) will be the primary goal, including research of course.

I work at a small fastfood restaurant and my hate towards it grows by day. After my co-workers left I had to work 3x as hard without any pay rise. Sometimes I'm doing all the work alone and my boss is just sitting outside smoking, while I'm working my ass off by helping and serving the customers and preparing all the food they order. He also tends to forget to order and refill stuffs, much to my frustration and making the customers wait much longer. Note that I'm a very hard working person and dealing with stress is one of my best qualities. I'm freaking exhausted because of the extra work pressure and more work days, and I'm about to start with my thesis which makes things more complex. These days I'm always extremely grumpy when I appear at work because I hate it so much, and I already told my boss he can say farwell to me next year.

I worked in equity research at a HF this summer, looking for IB gigs this summer. The job was pretty good overall since the guys were pretty chill about the time you could come in at, never gave interns crap.

damn I would hateeeeeee to do that!! Warehouse job sounds much better!

My job is alright I guess, I'm a brake press operator. Very boring and repetitive, and I don't get paid as much as I should. It pays the bills though, and I don't know anywhere else I can go that'll pay me around what I'm making now. My boyfriend is from work. I want a job that involves typing.

I've been working at the same Domino's since high school because they let me work whenever I'm home from college.
I love working over there. It's so chill and stress free compared to my life at school.
I also get all the free food I want too so I aint even mad about that.

What I want to do career-wise is be a lighting designer (or even a lighting director/master electrician) on Broadway.
Actually, I don't even care if I stay on Broadway tbh. I just want to design a couple times on Broadway so I could be established enough to do shows pretty much anywhere. Then settle down at a university and become a lighting design professor while still doing shows occasionally.

@4evavoodoo: I don't dig sharing my age but I'm definitely not that young, lol. I'm an adult, and yes, we did have a lot of family problems. Parents were very violent and abusive and I had enough and moved out. I was living in a very broken-down home. There was no shower, fridge, kitchen, or anything. I took a shower in a small plastic container in front of the sink while pouring water over my head with a bowl. Snowy doorsteps were my fridge and I used two wooden planks and two chairs as a desk. The house was also infested with earwigs and I couldn't even take a crap in peace without them trying to invade my space. I met my boyfriend at work, he saw where I was living and told me to move in with him which is why I'm struggling financially. It worked out though because he had just bought a condo and I am helping with my share of rent and mortgage. Rough times! Haha, maybe I will post it if it ever happens. Thanks for your good wishes!

@4evavoodoo: That's my game-plan. It's damn hard when you're living the independent, financially difficult life though. I'd like to slap my past-self for slacking off and not studying while under my parents' roof. At least I have a good argument for my future kids in case those bums ever think about dropping out. I'd slap em' silly for even giving it a thought.

@denial the better skills and the higher level of education attainment you have means opportunity to qualify for those higher paid jobs. Try to finish HS and get into college or uni?

@4evavoodoo: Noice! Sounds hella swell...I dropped HS (adult ed) for the sixth time this year. Hopefully I'll take that information as a piece of inspiration and get my crap together.

@killeem: Haha, same goes for every other money-greedy company out there. I'd like to have my own business as well...someday. Tis but just a dream. I'm in the same boat, my bank cash is usually at the negatives after bills and groceries are paid for. I don't know how I do my job either to be honest. Guess you gotta suck it up to make a living.

@4evavoodoo: I'd love to be in your shoes, dude. What do you do that makes you that much cash within a week? What type of business does your family own? My parents' used to own a motel business a few years back, I was still a kid and didn't get paid a cent for helping. Didn't really mind though, I wasn't really helping for the money anyway...as long as they didn't kick me out.

@puppy098098: Good for you, man. It's not every day you hear people being positive about the fast-food industry, so I'm glad to hear you enjoy your job. I've been in that industry myself for a couple of years and I couldn't handle it. Customers...yuk.
