About a month ago I knocked a tooth out, chipped one, and broke one and I had to get a root canal for the broken one (I will probs need one for the chipped one too). They gave me an anesthetic in my gums, then another higher dosage, and after that I didn't feel any pain whatsoever. I kept thinking I would be able to tell when they were doing the root canal, but then they were just finished all of a sudden.
Maybe I just have a good dentist? Every time I told people I had to get a root canal they'd be like "Ooohh, </3."

In fact, nothing about this whole breaking teeth ordeal has given me any pain. Not even at the moment I broke them.

I actually have no wisdom teeth. Guess I am the lucky one. My teeth are wierd... my teeth are apparently really young so when I am 40, my teeth age will actually be only 20 years old. None of my teeth naturally fell out and I still have two baby teeth, which will not fall out until maybe like 10 more years.

I only have 1 incoming wisdom tooth thankfully... it hurts like a mofo but at least it took until 24 to get this awful. I dread dental visits.

Got 4 wisdom teeth taken out in highschool (5 years ago?).... before they even reached the surface of my gums. Was completely asleep during the whole procedure. No pain at all but I became a large chipmunk (seriously I was large..) for 2 weeks. I didn't go to school for a week but when I finally decided to go back people in my class made fun of my face ..so I ended up crying in class and didn't go back to school until my swelling went down.
Anyways, my jaw ended up getting locked because I wasn't able to move it very much due to the fact that my face was a balloon. The surgeon decided it was a great idea to pull open my mouth as wide as possible and ending up 'dislocating' my jaw.
Well.. Not dislocating but cracked it/detached/popped off..something.. I don't even know how to explain it. So I can no longer open my mouth too wide or I 'dislocate' my jaw..It pops right back to normal if I close my mouth. I have to be extra careful yawning because it's slightly painful. Sigh..

when i was eight, i smacked my face on a chair and chipped two teeth. we were living abroad at the time so we just got some faux-caps on them and that was that. once we got back stateside, we went to an endodontist and he did tests to ensure that my teeth were still healthy. he put really cold ice on my teeth to test the sensitivity and essentially the result was: one of my teeth was dead and the other was hypersensitive. the first got a root canal and wasn't all that bad. they numb you and it takes no more than 30 minutes. the worst part is probably holding your mouth open for that long. the second one was much worse as the tooth eventually starting breaking itself down and i was in severe pain. i finally went to see the endodontist and i got my second root canal (this was probably sophomore year of high school or college, i honestly can't remember). again, easy. you're numbed.

i was seventeen when i got my wisdom teeth pulled. i only had three to pull because the fourth just didn't grow (#genetics). it wasn't all that bad. got knocked out by anaesthesia and that was that. the first couple days were a little rough: my body didn't like the vicodin they gave me so i just threw it up. despite that, there wasn't too much pain. after about a week, the general soreness and bleeding was done. after about a month i was fully back to normal (during this period i couldn't really open my mouth all the way). i was fortunate not to get dry socket, which is the most common complication of wisdom teeth removal.

overall, you'll probably be fine. there's always the chance for something to not go 100% smoothly. i mean, i've heard all sorts of stories ranging from "it was whatever" to "it was hell on earth," so who knows?

@newt236: I did it by myself and I thought it was going well, then my sis took a look and it was just ... </3
My sis especially hated me for making her help me clean my holes LOL
I got my wisdom teeth removed this year. The doctor said the wisdom teeth were deeply rooted in my jaw, and nerves wrapped around it. There was a potential permanent loss in sensation for my lower lip. </3

The surgery went by really fast (duh I got KO'd by the drugs), but it was excruciating the following days and I craved a lot of foods I couldn't eat.

Don't even get me started on cleaning out the holes. </3

As for the costs, well... The lower two were covered, but I had to pay to remove to upper two (might as well). I also had to pay for the drugs because there was no way I was going to have thousands of needles stuck in my mouth and staying awake to hear the saw cut my teeth.

Also forgot to mention the awful smell that came out of my mouth. It smelled like something crawled inside and died, and tasted like iron and other nasty stuff.
I remember that part, cleaning the holes. Took soo long for me to brush my teeth just trying to get food outta there, bad times bad times
I've had both done within the last 4 years and its not that bad

For my Root Canal i was actually being a moron and decided not to get one but like a year later i had some constant killer tooth aches so i had to set up an appointment and i had to put up with the pain for 2 weeks and over the counter painkillers did nothing, The procedure took about 4, 30 minute sessions, the first one was basically the standard procedure where they clean the root and extract it and stuff it wasnt that bad because they numb you up and you dont feel anything, the other 3 sessions were because the tooth had rotten away to the point that i had to get a fake tooth or crown or w/e so they gave me a temporary one but had to place the permanent one later on and the last session was basically them just checking on it to see if i was good to go.

For my Wisdom Teeth i needed both of my bottom molars taken out, this time i wasnt being an idiot and did them ASAP, they did one at a time within a 4 month period and i actual had completely opposite experiences with both.
The first one wasnt that bad, i actually had to go to a "specialist" because my regular dentist could do them and they just numbed me, the procedure took maybe an hour and it was relatively painless except maybe pressure but pressure =/= pain and there was a bunch of blood, the worst part is the recovery, the first couple days the wound hurts but after a week it gets way better but you still get the slight taste of iron if u lick your wound
My second Wisdom tooth was a nightmare, the procedure itself went fine, they actually had to shatter my tooth cus it was too big to yank out but the recovery was hell, my wound ended up getting infected and the damn doctor didnt give me my AntiBiotics prescription and kept insisting that my swelling would go away but it didnt so i went a full week with intense pain (my painkillers from my 1st extraction kinda helped) and my cheek got so swollen i couldnt even fit a finger in between my teeth, i had to eat nothing but Yogurt smoothies, finally after the 10th time of calling them they were like "F it come down here and we'll see whats up" then they gave me my pills and after 2 weeks i was back to normal

Edit: the worst thing about my infected wound aside from not being able to open my mouth was that the infection i guess traveled down to my throat and it absolutely effing hurt to swallow and since it wasnt constant pain the painkillers did nothing to it so every time i took a sip of water i wanted to die, i remember some nights i couldnt sleep because every now and then id swallow my spit and it would hurt and keep me awake
I am now scared.

Uhh, I had 4 wisdom teeth removed and it literally took the surgeon 3 hours to remove all of them. I wasn't asleep either, just my mouth which was frozen. Still had to go through so much pain within those 3 hours. However after 1 and 2 days, I just felt severe pain, took a bunch of painkillers and kept ice 24/7 to numb the area. Honestly, it hurt 3-4 days like hell after the surgery but today's the 8th day and i'm feeling good bc little to almost no pain right now.

On the other hand...root canals. Those are definitely not fun. I heard they hurt even more than wisdom teeth removal extraction bc my mom had one root canal and it was really tough for her.

But, good luck mate.

well when i had my wisdom teeth taken out they had me take vicodin and some other drug to start getting me woozy. Then when i got in they put me on gas to put me to sleep. The drugs had no effect on me, acted like my normal self which everyone ive told thought was very strange, but did keep the pain away. The gas had no effect on making me sleepy at all (people also thought was bizarre). Overall it was completely painless and no big deal
