Prom experiences?

Did you guys go to prom in high school? How was your experience?
I planned prom this year and it's been a really interesting experience for me. Prom is coming up and it seems kind of exciting, but at the same time, I remember that I'm going by myself and it makes me feel a little bummed out, HAHA.

I went to senior prom in high school w/ my friends and it was pretty ok. ^^ We mainly went to the photo booth to take derpy pictures and ate stuff and walked around. At some point we sat down and sang a bunch of songs together (because I love singing), and that was really fun. We did go to the dance floor but like, we don't dance, so we were just being goofy. Time went by really fast in those 4 hours.

i really did not enjoy prom or after party prom. IF YOU GO TO A GHETTO-ISH SCHOOL AND YOU ALREADY DONT FIT IN WITH MOST PEOPLE DONT GO. i didnt drink at the time and i still barley drink, the night ended with being in a hotel room sitting on a chair with all the lights off and watching 2 pairs of people grind on each other. it was so weird looking back. i dont dance and thinking "hey maybe the rythem will hit me when i hit the dance floor" nope i was basically a rock in the middle of the dance floor. i wish i didnt watse that money on prom and just stayed home and instead on a different day go to a restraunt with friend i would most likley never see again.

@qubii: in that case, maybe I should just go scope out the venue beforehand and see what it's like.

At prom there was the partners dance but one of my friends replaced the music and it turned into a rave/muzzing party. Chopped all night LOL

My school never once held a prom. (At least during my time.) However if they were to host one... I bring my cousin along. Why? I don't know, rather be at home playing Mario Party 3 with everyone honestly!

@fradddd: My school had it downtown in San Francisco, in the back entrance all I saw were people that were catering or worked there and didn't give a poop who went in with who or what. Scope out the place if you can.

Edit: Just ask her to prom.

I didn't enjoy prom itself, but after prom my friends and I drove up to Maine and stayed by the sea for like four days. Was worth it.

@qubii my school always had proms at well known venues or hotels or something so I doubt security would be very lax.

My high school prom made it memorable because of my group of friends. I danced a few times when my friends were too shy to go up but the rest of our time, we took over a table and had laughs. The best part was my friend getting super excited for some reason and he shook the table a little too hard, spilling the glass vase filled with water all over himself. To future prom planners, I recommend a GOOD DJ THAT WILL PUT AT LEAST ONE OR TWO SLOW SONGS, and maybe a masquerade event. Make sure to take pictures with friends because they usually have picture booths.

edit: If your school allows you to buy tickets outside of prom, I recommend you bring money just incasem and look for a way into the prom area without paying.

@dulcette I already know that I'm gonna say to myself "it's too late to ask and there's no good time".
Plus her prom is going on during my finals week.

OH WTF. WEEEAAAAAK. I just realized I actually have two weeks (including this one) until finals week! That sucks! I was wondering how we only had two weeks left if finals week was the last week of April and it was only the 11th...

And I can't find the day of her prom on the website but whatever. There's no way I'll convince myself to ask her.
EDIT: it's the 22nd. That would be a pretty convenient time for me lol. STILL. I WON'T ASK HER UNLESS BETWEEN NOW AND THEN WE GO ON SOME OUTING AND IT COMES UP.

I didn't go with a date and I had a good time. I just sort of hung out with my friends as we acted like idiots and imitated Nappa from Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
Don't stress out about getting a date, it's not as important as people make it out to be.

@fradddd: I have a friend who asked another girl-friend to prom while he was in college and they weren't dating! I don't think it should be that big of a deal if you guys talk and are comfortable with each other. ^_^

i crie evry tiem

Junior year: Didn't really wanna go with anyone besides this freshman female friend (a.k.a. biggest crush of my life at that point) but one time I randomly asked her, "so are you going to prom?" and she was like "no why would I do that it's stupid". And I didn't need that discouragement.

Senior year: Wanted to ask my current crush, but she goes to a different school. I hung out with her about three weeks before my prom, and she literally brought it up, when she randomly said, "I think I'm gonna go paintballing instead of prom" [A.K.A. not go to prom] and then I said something stupid about how she could wear a white dress to paintballing then come to prom in that. And then the conversation changed. And now it's a year later, and I don't think I should ask her cause 1) I'm in college and 2) That'd be weird unless we were BF/GF already.

Yes I know it's all my fault and blah blah blah you guys don't feel bad for me etc. etc. I hate myself for being so hesitant and unsure.

Went with my then-girlfriend. The actual prom was meh, but the after party we went to was an awesome way to end my high school career.

Prom was pretty boring for me. Food was average, nothing special. And I especially hate dancing. I would choose to go again, but only because prom is sort of an "obligatory experience" of high school.

@dulcette:

>Did you guys go to prom in high school?

Yes.

>How was your experience?

Not memorable. I didn't have a bad time, but it wasn't spectacular. Past graduation fortunately, it's something no one casually brings up in a conversation since it such a small moment in the bigger picture of the high school experience.

Prom is something of a rite of passage. The discussion is only brought up by high school students who have not yet gone to it. For us who have already been to Prom, these moments are about passing down some "tradition", knowledge and experience like what this thread is about.

...otherwise, it's more interesting to talk about college applications and admissions.

I disliked school dances but ended up going with a bunch of friends. It wasn't super fun but it also wasn't super boring. Not something I'd do again though.

i loved prom haha it's gonna be an awesome experience for you. just be social and talk to a bunch of people, it's part of the prom experience. be nice to ur date, compliment him/her, dance a couple slow songs, just throw bunch of good vibes around. just don't over drink and u good fam

tip: make sure u have a guaranteed afterparty to go to after prom. it's pretty much where everything happens, like sexual intercourse and drugs

Last year I went alone. I don't dance so there's no point in asking anyone to go. But this year, I might ask someone, I probably won't but we'll see...

@crispychream: I planned prom so I have to go! HAHA. I have one friend going, so I should count her as well, but she hates events like these and refuses to dress up so I don't know how the experience is going to be like. I'm really glad that she's going but I feel like we're going to be doing more sitting and watching than actually experiencing prom.
