so what do i do after a jog/workout? do i just do nothing?
o.o You are not suppose to workout 24/7. After your workout, you do what you normally do throughout your day...unless you normally eat 24/7...
Just rest, sleep...lol..

It would be nice if we knew your height and weight, so we know what to work with.
Anyways, if you are [truly] overweight, and not one of those "skinny" people thinking they're "fat" 'overweight' types,
When you are [actually] overweight, losing weight isn't so bad, first you might try to cut your diet, if you feel w/e amount you were eating before is too much, then maybe eat 80% less of that, then slowly work down, to 70%, 60%...etc. You don't want to first jump ahead into starving yourself by eat 50% of what you normally eat.
Then you might want to also do a little work out: jogging and running is great + some stretches.
Drinking water helps you lose weight too [I think I heard one of my friend told me this before]
Then when you reach the [normal] weight region, now this part can get a little harder...sometime you won't lose any weights for months, it takes awhile to offset the scale when you are not overweight anymore. Just keep working out, and maintaining a healthy food diet, and your weight will eventually start to go down.

There's no shortcut. Everyone's looking for a shortcut but there is no shortcut. You eat healthy, and I know for a fact that you know what is healthy. You exercise. Doesn't really matter what you're trying to do. If you're not trying to become buff and strong, and just trying to lose weight, exercise is simple. Run, easy. Hell, even walk, easy. Go to a gym and see how people do things, and copy them. It's no secret, it's no shortcut, you eat healthy and exercise, something that your parents taught you since you were two.

Just eat keto style. All fats and proteins, as little carbs as possible, and with fiber here and there. I've lost 15 pounds and really toned up in like, a month and a half with a week in San Francisco being totally off of the diet and a few days with my family eating out and knocking me out of ketosis in between. All you have to do is avoid carbohydrates like the plague and drink tons of water. You could seriously eat bacon and eggs three times a day and lose weight, but you have to include vegetables too in order to get the proper amount of fiber and other nutrients. Look into this, it seriously works.
Oh, and if you're concerned about blood pressure and cholesterol, don't worry. People have had their cholesterol raised with only the good cholesterol (HDL or LDL. I forgot) and my blood pressure actually dropped from some fat person number to 70/106.

I don't want to sound like a snob, but TS, I'm going to assume you have mean eating very unhealthily, since you're a 14 year-old guy. Usually in our teen years, we can be fat and chubby, but come puberty, we turn to twigs.

As first commend on this thread (and the insightful one too) mentioned, focus on eating more healthily. Avoid foods high in fat and even foods high in carbohydrates, although foods like avocado can be eaten even though they are high in fat because they contain essential nutrients and good fats for the body.

Working out should come secondary. It is definitely something to think about, but after a big workout, you may tend to splurge on more food and get back to old habits.

Best of luck

CNN is a creditable source since it's world news.

Tea still has calories even if it's not sweetened. Try not to eat out as much as possible because making your own food is healthier because you decide the ingredients vs the food that's all ready made..
I don't know if this has been said or not but I'll say it anyway.

Don't expect quick results. It is important that you remember this cause people often get discouraged when they don't lose lots of weight right away and so they just give up. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, just keep in mind that being strong willed is vital.

Also an appointment with a nutritionist would be very beneficial.

Best of luck
thanks
i know the journey won't be easy nor fast, but losing weight overall is a accomplishment for me and i will continue to do so until i reach my goal.
Red meat is a good source of protein, and you should specify on what type of exercise, assuming he just wants to lose weight then cardio would be more beneficial for him? Some people eat salad without dressing....?And You can buy apples and other fruits from more expensive stores where everything is fresh and doesn't have preservatives in them..?
That's true but you shouldn't eat a lot of red meat to begin with, and what if he can't afford organic? Bananas are okay. I eat salad without dressing..it's kind of hard to at first..since its plain most people I know can't. Cardio..or p90x/insanity (if he can..not everybody can do it)

It's better if you eat 6 small meals instead of 3 big meals. I think you eat half of how much you would eat in one meal for 1 of six meals.. Eat until you're 80% full.

Find you bmr. Calculate how many calories you can eat without doing anything. Watch your calories on a daily basis. Try not to surpass that amount. Most importantly do cardio on top of that. I lost 30 pounds this summer doing that. Totally ripped now, but I had to run about 5-8 miles a day 5-6 times a week. Don't bother lifting weights and stuff until you get your weight down to a manageable level. E.g you are 175 pounds meaning you need about 1.8-2k calories a day. Eat that amount with less than 50 grams of fat, while burning off 500-600 calories a day by running, walking, sports etc. basically your net intake will be 1.3-1.5k calories a day. A 500 net calories deficit per day x 7 is 3500 calories a week. You will lose 1 pound a week.
Ok first off, you need to learn how to eat correctly. You can completely change your body by eating correctly. Now I know nothing of what you eat on a daily basis, but You cannot just drop what you eat by half. You will always be hungry and thinking about food. First off eat HEALTHIER. This is vital, you need to eat much healthier options. This doesn't mean eat salads, this means eat foods with less fat content. Such as McDonald's. I'll admit i love Mcdonalds and i'll go and get myself like 3 mccdoubles and 3 mcchickens and just scarf em down. But what you could do is eat a chicken burger from elsewhere. Also if you're used to eating like 5 of em, why not try 4, then slowly move it down to 3 then 2. Always think about what you are going to eat rather than how much you are going to eat.

I'm not too good with the eating thing, but working out is my thing. Start DAILY, running or walking. At least two to three miles a day. Once it gets easier move up the milage.

Once you feel you're getting healthier through running you can start working out at a gym. I like to do Monday Wednesday and Friday, every week. Split up your workouts so you're doing 2 to 3 body parts a day. I do Chest and Back on Mondays, Shoulders and Arms on Wednesdays, and Legs on Fridays. It's up to you though.

So to wrap this up, Eat healthier, start running daily and consider applying to a gym. Good luck
No I'm not...TS needs to eat healthy and exercise to lose weight.

@ExSaber No problem

@DrHye You can still eat the foods that you like but not as much as before..not saying that you can't eat junk food though.

Edit: Salads seem healthy but they're not unless your eating it with vinegrette or some other healthy dressings... Dressings like Ranch have sodium and saturated fat..

Find some sort of physical activity that you like doing or want to learn to do, otherwise excercising/working out becomes a chore.

Make a diary, or log of what you eat every day for a month and figure out what you're actually putting in your body.
