Whats so bad about Night Walkers?

Hey guys, just been wondering about something for a while now.
Why do people dislike Night Walkers when it comes to comparing them with Night Lords? Am I missing something vital between the two? I've heard people say that NW's are easier to hit cap due to them being a Cygnus rather than an Explorer but with that said, why are people still attracted to going Night Lords over Night Walkers?

[Couldnt make a poll due to the fact that I already made one for another thread]

EDIT: Would it be worth psoking my gear off my DB to go as a NW or just open job adv to a NL? In terms of cost its a no brainer but whats everyone elses opinion?

In terms of fun I'll tell you that DBs will be the better choice in most cases, but if all you really care about is being op and soloing bosses by all means go to NW.

Went from NL to NW and loving it so far

To be honest though, I haven't had an extended amount of fun for any class in this game other than Zeros. Every other class has been a similar experience for me.

People say that classes like Demon Avenger or Cannoneer or Evans are boring when NWs and NLs are literally the most braindead class to play and they're the two most popular classes, I'll never understand
In terms of funding efficiency there is NO comparison at all from NW to any other thief class. Hell Gollux is done at ease with well under 1.5m range. They do too much damage, heal it up, and can take down bosses earlier than the other classes.

The only downside is the training when compared against night lords. They don't necessarily have worse mobbing. It is much weaker, but if you have enough to one or two hit the stronghold mobs it doesn't even matter anymore. Night lords need to be at a similar damage range to one hit them as well, even with a much higher base damage on showdown. Bats are not as consistent as the stars that fly, but the upside is that they heal you. They don't have the experience boost from showdown. Showdown is a little faster too.

Their mobility beats that of night lords. They can move back, jump up, and still flash jump. They do lack the double jump, but it really isn't too practical during training. Double jump does provide additional control, but I believe night walkers can up jump and then flash jump, which gives something similar.

Are they less fun? I don't really know how they can be. Night lords just use quad throw, dark sight, flash jump, hypers, showdown to get rid of mobs while fighting bosses. Night walkers use the same thing except their mobbing move other than showdown. Night lords get mobbing moves earlier. This would be a problem if 1-60 wasn't a joke. They actually have a very similar play style. Night walkers may jump a ton more in bosses to maximize their damage, but really they are very similar. If I had to rank one, I might give a slight edge to night lords in terms of fun. The night walker aoe is boring and showdown is more interesting to use. It's also easier to sit there and attack immobile bosses while night walkers have to jump.

I am sure that if you transferred all your db stuff to a night walker you would do more damage over time. I think even if you cap with phantom blow no final cut you would. Having range helps during bosses anyway. Having tried those classes, I personally think dual blades are more fun than night walkers.
I agree with this, although there is one thing you are slightly wrong about, and only SLIGHTLY. NW CAN double jump, but it is NOWHERE near as easy to use/controllable as NL/Shad's second FJ.

Everything else though, agreed, and well put.

@SirKibbleX2: ah i forgot to mention though that I had both a NW and a NL lvl180+ so RnJ and DiPQ arent really all that important

nothing really terrible about NW, mobbing is a bit laxed but nothing game breaking. More or lessthe "nw suck" crowd is coming from butt hurt Night lords.

I find training super quick and fast with night walker. I wipe sdh maps as fast as my zero, and he basically one shots them. :L

I, personally, love my Night Walker. o_o I like my bats and jump attacking and my weird slimy shadowy bind thing is cool af. The thing is that after I hit 200, I didn't care about mobbing. I HATE training. Night Walkers aren't nearly as good at mobbing as Night Lords, but it's not complete garbage at it. Just don't be an idiot and use Quintuple Throw to mob... Shadow Spark is better. Especially with shadow partner or triple shadows.

I leveled up a Nightwalker to 160 in what...4 days? Around hours with 16 hours worth of 2x. Honestly it's not that bad. Because nightwalkers are so good at single target DPS i basically boss or go to monsters twice my level. I didn't even use training gear.

However I devour SINGLE TARGET bosses in like the time of similarily funded nightlords as long as I jump attack. For multi headed bosses like zakum or HT I slow down drastically because I can't target them all.

Boring, bland, not that great mobbing compared to other classes. I've mained a nL once and while I don't find it to be my favorite, or even close to my favorite, i find it more fun than NW. There are of course advantages to NW such as 50%elemental ignore back step vertical flash jump and the higher dps. I think butthurt is a viable option on why it's disliked but i think opinion on fun is taken into account too.

Butthurt. NW is pretty much superior in pretty much every aspect except fun and mobbing. They have much better mobility with a backwards jump and an up jump along with the normal thief flash jump, they have a revive, bind, 6 throwing star move, triple shadow partner, higher attack speed, they have a drain and more. They pretty much put all the good aspects of previous NL versions and current ones, added OP elements along with a crap ton of other stuff like i've mentioned

Tried out NW, wanted to neck myself and deleted it before hitting 4th job because of how horribad the dam training was. Of course if bossing is the only concern then by all means go for a Night Walker. But I can't leave my Night Lord and I definitely refuse to play a dam Cygnus

It's because Nws make nls look like a joke when it comes to bossing. Why play a class with almost half the dps of the other. You need to stack atk speed on the nl too which might be a nuisance to many. This just reminds me of the time about 4 years ago when every shadowers couldn't stand dbs because they were the dominant class. The only downside to Nw is that their skills are as fun as watching paint dry.

Alot of people say theyre boring but personally i find them really fun to play, especially because of their unique shadow partner and mobile playstyle. Also their mobbing isnt that bad, i'd even say its pretty good as long as you can 1-2 hit mobs with your bats.

Yeah tbh, NW mobbing isn't that bad. I actually like Shadow Spark since it is super good at clearing left and right waves while standing in the middle of SDH/FDH once you're doing 20mil+ damage per hit. I made a NW and NL with the same equipment both to lvl 200 and NLs were fun from 1-200 but got a bit boring for me after 200. NL skills look so cool though <3

This is basically what training looks like for a NW at 200+: http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Maximizing_exp_at_200_-Training-Video-30712.html

NWS are bad mobbers? With avg funds, you can easily one shot sdh with bats.

With high damage NW mobbing isn't even bad at SDH. I think most people just resent NW's for being as overpowered as they are in bossing scenarios and / or they don't want to deal with moving their gear over / remaking untradeables. You can call them dull and boring all you want but NL's aren't much different and NW's get both an upwards flash jump and backstep, making them much more enjoyable in my opinion.

NW doesn't have mobbing as well as NW. Like when you're in MPE, you're going to want to kill yourself since you can't even clear through the monsters.

Ive been playing nw for about a week and up till now and bossing seems very very good compared to all my other chars at my current range. That being said the mobbing is horrible (which makes lvling somewhat slower) and the play style is very pretty boring if your into more flashiness. That being said I only care about being able to boss and stuff so nw is a fit for me.

It's just preference, and peoples play style. Some might think one class is bad mobbers, others might think they're great. It all depends on how they play the class, skill level, and knowledge on the class.

so, if (hypothetically) i decided to switch to an NL, how much %luk would I need in order to hit cap?

I've read earlier that people with an average of 15% luk on their equips were fine as a NW to do decent damage, but may vary as a NL.
How much %luk would I need as a NL and how much would I need to have a range of 1 - 1.5m?

obviously NW for bossing, but a lot of people still train and have goals between lvl 220 even all the way to 250, or want to leech guild/friends and NL will get that done much better than NW

Night walkers can't mob for crap. Night Lords on the other hand are bouncy, easy to level, have a similar fighting style (very similar), and don't do the same thing for mobbing all 200 levels.

@plsbemygf : but with how the game is lately (mostly being endgame with bosses) does mobbing even matter?
