Corsair

Are corsairs really that weak?

Title.
I see no recommendations to play corsair at all.

Funny thing was corsairs were actually one of the top dps in the old days before they got rapid fire. There is like no point in playing one now when phantoms could do the same.

I played corsair pre-red so maybe I am not completely credible, I think corsairs are unique but die after than a fly. Rapid Fire is probably the coolest skill to spam when your funded and really good for bossing. Mobbing wise, I can't say they are the best in fact they are very mediocre. Buffs are another turnoff since they aren't guaranteed so it can be annoying.

Snipe however and forever will be a favorite skill of mine <3

I agree with the "fun is subjective" statement. And to me, hitting low on a class that is weak doesn't seem that much fun to me. I personally wouldn't want to play/main that class, but everyone has their preferences.

Corsair is a fun class bro. It was one of my main's a little while back and I plan to make it my main..main? I suppose in a bit when I get more funds.

In my opinion, maybe a few years ago corsairs HP and survivability was really bad, but now most classes have seemed to even out in that department. On top of that, although bossing isn't easy, most bosses these days do a percent damage atk in relation to your HP/MP as opposed to just always 1/1 you. So that changes things up as well.

Also, given that corsairs are funded properly, they are a good class and a fun class(which is what should matter most to the player anyways.) At the end of the day, if it isn't funded to make up for its lacking in other areas, then it is just an average class at best, since it requires a lot of funding to be able to keep up and then requires even more funding to surpass other classes.

But to me, it's worth playing if you enjoy it. It really has a unique feel to it.

Biggest issue with Corsair is survivability, not lack of damage.

Corsairs' HP and defense are on the low side, and they don't have high avoidability (Thief) or skills like Magic Guard to compensate that. This means grinding is a pain for Corsair. Corsair also needs to be extra cautious against bosses as some of them deal high fixed damage.

And it doesn't help that skills like Scruvy Summons and Luck of Dice are unpredictable.

imo Corsairs are just "good". They're not great or outstanding at anything, so they don't really standout when compared to other classes.

@snailpresident yup, I find them really fun and cool. Was originally a cannoneer but felt that I lacked so much skills because of having just two attack skills.
I actually already changed to a corsair this morning and I love it. Was just curious why people somehow hate them.

Bottom line, I see people play Corsair mostly because they find it fun. Although, buffs are incoming.

If you're taking them at face value, they are not as "strong" as the other explorer pirates. Buccaneer Blast and Cannon Bazooka are superior training skills to Eight-leg Easton in terms of damage and reach, though Eight-leg is above average in the % damage department. Broadside is also very useful, particularly in DiPQ.

DPM bossing-wise, I'd put corsair above Buccaneer. I'm not sure about Cannon Master. Corsair certainly isn't the worst, but it's nowhere near the best. I don't think the DPM charts have been accurate so people think it's worse than it is. Probably lower-middle to middle tier without any funds.
