Some info on the servers being down
Ok so as most of you know MapleStory is down. But it's not just MapleStory, the entire american Nexon HQ is down.
Now I did some checkups and this crash, or downtime, is only in Nexon America. And not only that, 7 hours ago Nexon recieve an ISANE amount of information (x300 the usual), which is usually a DDoS attempt.
My assumption is that somebody tried to DDoS them, they blocked it, and 6 hours later he tried again and succeeded.
Unless someone has some amazing revelation that somebody broke in to the Nexon HQ and shut down everything manually, I suggest you all embrace the fact that it's gonna take a while for the servers to get back up. Go do your homework, or chores, or whatever, an fm1 spot isn't worth that much anyways xP
Btw, I'm bored, not lifeless. There's a difference.
EDIT: Yup, Combat Arms is back up (And obviously since CA is back up so is the main Nexon site).

Seems as if MapleStory is the only one that is still down.
Maybe the main attack was on MapleStory, I don't really know if it affects anything but if it does than yea, makes sense
If you don't want to refresh IsItDown or the Maple site, but still desperate for an FM1 spot (Or whatever....), try using gmsstatus, it alrets you when the servers are up (Updates once every minute I think...) However, it only alrerts once all servers are up, while channels update from lowest to highest, one at a time across all servers independently.

Oh and about all the people asking how I know this, it's fairly easy with accesible internet info, such as the chart in the isitdownrightnow site.
I've also seen plenty of DDoSes happening before and this seems fit for the case. Sure it's a much larger scaled DDoS but it's the same process

they do have counters to such attacks but same with actual game security i dare to say most of it is dated (or could be plain better)
if this is due to ddos attack (could be nexon decided to secretly update and switch out their servers and someone jumped it and unpluged everything...)
its prolly due to nexon catching someone who was hacking aside from a farmer and they got mad
be it angry at p2w options (even tho free options thair hope this doesnt effect my smithing im lv11 yeah i can make tah cubes)
or be it angry game is down...
reason you hate it so much and continue to play is secretly somewere inside you .... you really love playing maple...or...
you have a gaming disorder and cant quit the game till you have achieved greatness in it...
ether way lets hope nexon can stop this and fix the game so we can play XD
could even be nexons host isp other games that are more open tend to tell you and notify you when they can about issues that happen
nexons tends to be more secretive idk tho
aside from most their community taking out the pitch forks and torches almost instantly anything happens ingame lol

For all the people who say they want to quit, let's take this time to pretend you DID.
This is what life is without it. Maybe then you could some time to think about what you really want to do and do it instead of constantly whining about how much you want to do something you haven't done. So then, should you want to quit, quit. Though you may not enjoy the game anymore, I severely doubt someone is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play it, otherwise you would clearly have other things to be concerned about. When this happens to Nexon servers, its usually going to be a ddos attack or a server issue caused by a back end update. They don't usually last long. It is still early so sleep in, or go to school and see if its back up when you return...if it isnt, get some work done and chillax. Happy unmapling <3

Kinda excepted this in a way(?) league and Guild Wars 2 got DDoS'd a few weeks back if I remember correctly, don't know why maple would ever get targeted though.
