Personally, LoL is easier to grasp than Dota. I would only go for DOTA if you like denying and can keep up with the pace. Other than that, League is mostly for team kills and who can secure dragon/baron the best imo.

I play LoL but never tried Dota

Dota 2 player.
Personally prefer Dota over LoL for a variety of reasons.

Though it's too bad I don't have the discs for Frozen Throne and Reign of Chaos anymore.

Though I'd say Dota2 AND Smite > League of Legends. (Dota2 Community is hell of a lot better than league's in my opinion, since no one gives a damn about ELO or playing by the meta, etc etc) and Smite just has the best mechanics for ganking by abusing the 3D camera and player blind spots.

League's just... burst all your skills and spam ignite and hope for the best while yelling at your teammates for YOUR OWN mistakes, or at your support because you didn't take the inititive to follow up on the stun (talking to you Ezreal players, with your lack of CC and your passiveness unless you build blue).

I find LoL more fun mostly because of Dota 2 looking meh to me. This is my own general opinion though.

Pretty much this. Dota 2 players on Basil except the aforementioned are generally less vocal about playing, whilst LoL players are the opposite really.
