Why people still play Maplestory?

I'm really curious by now that there's still people playing Maplestory when :-
1) Solostory
2) Pay NX or your lifetime (or both) to do something effectively in the game
3) Boring gameplay that let you win by holding one button (press potions if needed) [one time I saw my roommate play Maplestory, I recorded it and showed him how's his face expression / body movements are after he soloed Cvellum. He couldn't sleep at night and uninstalled Maplestory in the next day]
4) A community that doesn't socialize much because henehoes and 1) and 2)
5) Unbalanced contents that are either too easy to be interesting (grinding / minor bosses / level 200) or too hard (endgame bosses / level 250 / damage) or just useless or just too unfair (classes)
6) Nexon simply don't care about mesos seller / botter (I've been wondering if Nexon is working with them instead), and seems to think that the players are their ATM instead of their customers

I'm not here to judge but just curious.

Maybe the dudes expression during Cvellum was dead and just boring/pathetic? No Idea why some people can't believe it lol.

Not sure about you, but when I first killed Cvellum last year, and it only dropped 2 weapons, I was motivated to buy drop gear not to quit.

1) In a way it's good, no need to have Anchors to carry, I prefer helping people out with a brain

2) Simply don't spend any NX at all, or after a certain amount

3) This is probably the most dumbest and most fake crap I ever heard.. A dude quitting MS because he killed Chaos Vellum and couldn't sleep at night? It makes no damn sense whatsoever and do you even realise how dumb and pathetic you sound after saying that?..

4) Don't even know what you're saying because it's utterly dumb, simply find friends to socailse with is that too hard?

5) For the class part.. Each class has their capabilities, whether it's for training, bossing or whatever.. There's no such thing as unfair classes, you're just a total idiot who somewhat can't even pick a class to begin http://www.basilmarket.com/user/JjwyH/forum/threads Go through your own threads, before saying dumb stuff.

6) Made no sense whatsoever.. They do care, just the amount of bots keep making gibberish names.

Wish people would read your point 3, to see how dumb you look before agreeing.. I'd rather have "maple is dying" over "why do people still play?" threads..
It's like asking why do you keep making dumb threads.

Personal goals. Stop caring about what other people do and focus on what you wish you achieve, leave other people alone to do whatever the hell they wanna do.

Edit: Point number, if it's so unbalanced you too can join the OPness. It's open to everyone, others have just worked harder and spent a bit more than you.

Note: I know people always say they throw money at the game and it makes you stronger, however, even that has technique. There are countless players that drop too much on the game all the time and are still not where most people want to be.

I really only agree with you on #5. Most everything else is just personal choice.

Can't choose a class to begin with and asking what to play > now asks why do people still play MS..
Sometimes I question myself, why do people like you even exist.. Or even playing the game, uninstall already

OT: Only still play atm to help friends out.

Well, lots of people have their own stories and reaons but mine is simply because I still like it.
I enjoy the game. Although Im not rich I enjoy merching and making money. I mainly play support classes to help out others but my favorite is beginner XD.
I also love to hangout with friends, talk and help out each other enhancing good equips and such.
And... I want to say that lots of people say its lonely and they're alone but Im not. I made friends with lots of people and play together.
Its true that the time when you walked around, you saw people and eventually made friends is gone, but there are still lots of players in this game and you could still easily make friends.
For me, blaming population for not having friends is just an excuse.
I think one of the interesting dynamics about Maplestory that isn't really present in those other games is the combination of serious and casual game players, as well as the gender neutral style of the game. I think you prolly come across a more diverse community than you do in most other mmorpgs. Could be wrong but as a girl I enjoy how Maple isn't always super competitive...and doesn't even disproportionately reward people who play it seriously and competitively. It creates a really cool dynamic that provides far more unique situations than most more defined or structured games have the chance to.
That's something I never really stopped to think about. I've been reflecting on this for the past couple of minutes and I definitely agree with you.

What I dislike most about competitive games is that the community can make them really unfun. I enjoy the thrill of overcoming tough challenges, but at the same time it can stir up so much negativity and impatience with other people, it kills my enjoyment. Your post brought back memories of my experience with group content in WoW; people yelling at each other for small mistakes (so much so that it delved into personal attacks at one point), voting to kick people who try to make small talk (because apparently socializing is an impediment to their progress)... yeah, no thank you. I'd rather play Maple. The community here isn't as negative. Everyone seems more chill and friendly, and yeah, I owe it to the fact that this game doesn't foster the kind of venomous attitude that pervades competitive games. At least people here will say "hi" with an F2 when I greet them. Even in Boss Arena, my opponent and I smile at each other after a match - none of this "you n00b" or "lol uninstall plz" nonsense.
@ashleyatacked watcha gonna do when maple dies?
Just what I do already...focus on school, practice ballet and help teach at the ymca to kids, etc. My primary hobby in life is ballet and studying, I don't really feel like Maple defines anything I do...most of my friends don't play Maple. Luckily my rl best friend does though. If it ever came down to it, though, Maple is the first thing I'd drop, even before dropping playing solo conole games which I actually prefer to Maple. I'd drop maple and just focus more on dance, etc.

I actually haven't even had the time to participate in even a single one of the Maple anniversary events, unfortunately.
No other game is fun to me at the moment. WoW went down the craphole, so I came back here. I don't really like LoL.

Hayato alone is reason why I still play this game. I genuinely enjoy the class so much I'm able to forgive Maple for all its shortcomings. If this class didn't exist I'd probably find some other game. But hey, it's here, and as along as I'm having fun, that's all that matters, right?
I keep playing because all it is to me is a glorified chat program with semi unique ways to interact with your friends. I've been playing the game since 2005ish when I was 8-9 ish...so I've basically grown up with it and the friendships I've made have lasted years and years. Even if I wanted to I couldn't really quit because it's be throwing my friends away...which isn't something I'm willing to do. Every time I want a break from the game I'm still drawn back because thats where a lot of my life long friends are easiest to spend time with...

I don't really regret it at all though. I don't like Nexon but the core experience is being with my friends, not playing 'Maplestory'. Though Nexon still benefits either way, regardless of what I think.

1. Maybe you're just a loner?
2. Don't need NX for high damage.
3. Not gonna lie, I agree on this point.
4. Like no.1 Find some friends?
5. Dis also true. Theres a huge jump from, cakewalk easy mode to insane hard
6. Nexon cares about meso sellers. Meso sellers = less money for Nexon
Because this is a free to play game. It is extremely easy to just make another account. You should also check ban lists. Those are ridiculous. Just a crap ton of players with IGNs as like AG7482FB1

Hope this solved your curiosity
