Nearly saw someone die today

A guy stood in front of the train I was taking this morning, no idea how I didn't see him, he was out in the distance on the tracks but yeah...
Many people watched him commit suicide while they could do absolutely nothing, especially the train driver...my mum even saw it and she's really traumatized.
I really feel for the guy who thought it was a good idea to end it all, and his family, but why do it in front of a train and an audience? So many now have to live with the image of his death.

Has anyone actually experienced something like this before? How did/do you cope? It's so sad.

EDIT: Since my title has brought confusion, yes the person did die, I just didn't actually SEE it (I was on my phone and couldn't see properly into the distance where the guy was standing).

When I was in China I saw this guy attempting to jump off from the 6th floor apartment with a kitchen knife in his hand threatening anyone who tries to rescue him. He didn't die but got serious injuries from the jump, but that was what the news said since we (me and my dad) didn't stand around and watch when he jumped. This happened when I was really young so I don't remember much except from what my dad told me.

Other than that, I didn't really witness any suicide attempts in my life.
Well, just saying, you said your mom was traumatized, and your turn away, that mean your mom is facing the dead body while your face is facing the opposite of your mom.

1st, no one can clean a dead body in a few second.
2nd, since your mom was traumatized after seeing the body, she should be shocked and cannot move when seeing the dead body and in the situation, you will turn around to face the body because you need to bring your mother aways. Unless you tell me that after your mom see that body, she straight run away and you follow her without turning back; or your mom is stunt and you still don't turn around until the body is clean away after hour or so, just standing there spacing out. lol

just saying. soft feeling.
What are you on about...?
I was on the train platform while my mum was in the parking lot as she had just dropped me off. She heard the loud, on-going train noise and looked to see a guy standing on the tracks, then he was hit. He was outside of the platform so I couldn't really see that well. She ran out of the car to me, crying.

That's one of the most ass hole'ish comments I ever read. Everyone has value just by living. Even a man who kills 1000 innocent men has value. Value in a sense that he can pay for his crimes. If he dies he has no value to give.
You'll forget it ever happened sooner or later. But no i havent experienced this.
Well the person could have jumped out of view and died, there by making you nearly seeing them die.

I'd say being on a train is worse though, hearing those "we've had a minor incident and will be delayed by an hour or so" pretty much chitchat for guy jumped and we're screwed and need to wait.

Wait, did the guy standing in front of the train die or not? Your title and actual post conflict.

There's no meaning in death. You have value just by being alive. Once you die, you are worthless, void of reason and unable to climb back to victory. -Lloyd Irving

My aunt committed suicide in the summer of '09 and although I wasn't there when she died, my mother and two cousins were. My cousins were only 7 and 10 when it happened, so they basically grew up into the pre-teen and teen they are today without a "true" mother figure in their life. I know that they will never be 100% fine or unaffected by this, but I believe they are coping really well and I'm so proud of them. They just live their life, keep busy and active, cry when they miss her, and just keep on moving foward. Life truly is precious, it's so sad when we forget that sometimes

was he standing there the whole time waiting for the train or did he jump a few seconds before making contact with the train?

Couldn't really think of a better thread title but you'd have to read the thread to understand. He did die, I nearly saw it happen (if I looked harder or continued to look at the train since I turned away).

as cliche as it sounds, time heals all wounds. You're not going to forget something like that easily, slowly but surely, over time the memories will slowly fade. I haven't witnessed anything as horrific as your mother did but i stood beside my grandmother when she passed away on her death bed.

I saw my goldfish die. It was also traumatizing.

OT: No and thank god.
