@benchpresser I'm not eager to die. I'm just not fearful of it. I wanna live the rest of this life, because I think it's worth it. Again, people will point at me and say I'm a typical fanatic, but you wouldn't know how I felt unless you were Christian too.

@fradddd So if you're eager to die, and you're not judged on your sins, why not kill yourself?

@sirkibblex2: Well, really, if you don't believe Jesus is the son of God and personal savior etc. etc., THEN you'll probably get sent to hell.
But none of us know for sure just HOW lenient God could be, say, for those who are really good people and just never found the Christian path, etc.
I know I probably sound like some religious fanatic but it's just what I believe lol.

@sirkibblex2 that's what Catholics believe. I guess they don't realize that Jesus died so we don't have to be judged based on our sins. If we were judged on our sins everyone would be sent to hell.

@alwaysthere nah, I doubt it. That's just a common thing that people say. I don't know if it has any basis in the Bible, I haven't read the book for a while.

@killeem: So now that you have come to this realization, what are you going to do about it? What changes( if any) will you make to your life?

Alright imagine death like this; think of the time before you were actually born(like before you were fully formed in your mom's stomach).
Exactly,
you can't.
That is basically what death is.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand @okopiko basically said the same thing

except you wouldn't even think it's way too f*ing long... or be able to think in the first place because you're f*ing dead.

Think about it like this. We've all managed to do it already - before we were born.

@fradddd: So god sends people to hell if they have a mental illness?

It makes you really start to consider the world we live in. After two or three philosophy lectures, I started questioning what we perceive as the world and if what we perceive is really what we believe it to be. It's already been stated that other organisms perceive the world completely different from us. Dogs and deer don't perceive time the same way we do, so that leaves a plethora of options for other organisms, as well. The human lens we see this world in is inherently biased and hardly gives us a complete picture. It's just a workable explanation for an extremely complicated world that our minds can barely process. I'm not only surprised, but expecting a new species to crop up in the next coming few millennia that will be able to understand the world in a way we couldn't even imagine.
Just for a comparison, we have three different color receptive cones: Red, blue, and green. The mantis shrimp has 16 color receptive cones. A crustacean can see colors that we can't even think of.
When human beings are so limited in their perception of this world, why would I even stop to consider what people say are true about an afterlife? For all I know it could be an endless void, or an awakening to another world. Or heaven and hell.
At the end of the day, you just have to have an answer that satisfies you.

Well since I'm Christian I'm looking forward to dying.
Just can't kill myself cause I might get sent to hell...
What a conundrum!

Eh. When I was dead for a while, it was an unsettling darkness. It lasted way too long. Then I ended up meeting and talking to someone who was very business like and summarized my life and my chances. It's awkward though since the unknown person told me I'd forget when I woke up again. I forgot most of the convo though.

i think living forever is actually much more depressing.
it's good to know that there's a limit to everything, including life. AS CLICHE as it sounds, it makes you appreciate the beauty around you and savior every moment with your close family and friends.

Here's the thing..

If you're asleep when you die that means we all do have souls and there would be some sort of afterlife. If there isn't an afterlife then you'll just cease to exist so it wouldn't be a big deal.

Well, since you aren't alive you probably won't notice how long the sleep is anyways.

ya, so quit smoking you nub.

I feel like I'm the only one who ever talks about death to my friends - I don't see it as something to be afraid about. I mean we're all going to experience it eventually - it's like fact that it's gonna happen, so you can't get any more prepared than that. I mean, for sure, fear the pain of dying by a thousand cuts, or maybe murdered by a serial killer - we can fear the loss of relationships, of friends, and of families - but at the end of the day, we are nothing but stardust - a part of the cycle.
