Is burning things the new hype

I've noticed my idiot of a younger brother setting things on fire with a bottle of axe and a lighter. He just sprays anything he can find (homework, grass, animals?) and lights it up, spreads whatever is left around the cement with his feet. I'm asking this cause he's one of those "has to do what everyone else is doing" and when I asked him about it he tells me "I'm bored, I like to set stuff on fire". I know for sure he's not a crazy pyromaniac, just wondering if this is what kids do these days, he's a senior in highs chool if that helps any

I'm not a burn everything kind of person. I'm more of a destroy with brute force kind of person.

I think everyone goes through a phase like that in his life.

I was like that in 6th grade.

I friend of mine got into that like 10 years ago when we were in grade 6.

Did you used to spend a lot of time with him? Is that how you know "for sure" that he's not a pyro despite his recent love for fire?
Also, if you spent a lot of time with him in the past, has that changed recently? If so, he may be setting things on fire because he wants you to notice that he exists again and talk to him. Perhaps introduce him to cooking. It'll accomplish two things: first, if his main reason for blowing stuff up involves your attention, then it'll give him the attention he's after. And second, cooking involves heat and sometimes fire, so maybe he'll latch onto it and find a constructive outlet for his burning desire to set things on fire.

my little brother is in grade 10, and he did that all summer when he was really bored.
He'd take matches and light newspapers on fire, and then yell because he didn't know what to do to put it out.
such an idiot.

"These days". I used to do this like 7 years ago. We would make the flame thrower out of Axe and WD40. Sprayed a giant puddle of WD40 on cardboard and light it on fire. Would also burn leaves, sticks, etc.

Well, as a senior in highschool, I've never heard of anything like that and I can say that is not normal
