People in college/university
How in the hell do you guys deal with lectures that are 400+ people that have TAs that don't care and have a professor that just tells you to refer to her TAs?
I'm not too worried about this specific course since it's just Biology, but in the future in case I have to deal with this again.
Which I know I will.
Also, let's turn this into a general rant thread about college.

Unless it's a hands-on class, I don't see why it really matters. All my art classes are small, so the teacher can go around to each student and help them individually. But if it's just a class where everyone learns the same thing at the same pace, why would you need personalized instruction? I guess you could always go to office hours, or seek help outside of class if you needed it. But there are different kinds of classes, and they have different styles of teaching. For large lectures, because the subject matter is so generalized you don't really need one-on-one time with your professor.
You deal with it like a boss.
@NonSonoFronz Maybe in the future you can look up your professors and TAs online to see if you should sign up for a class or not. There are plenty of professors and TAs at my school that everyone avoids, unless they absolutely have no other choice.
Professors often collaborate with lecture material, especially when it's an intro class like biology. While the lecture maybe large, if biology is not a graduation requirement at your university then I highly doubt that it's 400 people in one lecture.
Taking a lab science is a requirement to graduate here and Biology is one of the few that doesn't require any math.
Also, pretty much anyone who's STEM is required to take Biology which is a ridiculous amount of people.
@xreminiscing: I guess I might try going to other TAs and professors. This class I'm honestly not worried about at all.
I was mainly asking for advice for a future of having classes like this. I suppose I'm also going to have to get familiar with all of the resources available too.

B-Baka!
I usually sit somewhere without distractions, go to office hours of TAs that have a reputation for being helpful (even if they're not my own TA), and watch webcasts if I missed something in class. My classes have anywhere between 20-800 people in one lecture hall o.o
Check to see if your school offers resources outside of the classroom. Mine has a student learning center that's open 24/7, so that you can do your homework there or study with other students. There are also tutors for the basic subjects for most of the day, and there are also small, tutor-led study groups that you can sign up for.
Yeahhh man. In my Biology lecture we have to use this online polling thing and for one poll 350 people replied.
While a bunch of people in there were still having technical difficulties. So I'm assuming it's 400+ people.

I only scored a 4 in chemistry so that only placed me out of the first part of gen chem.
A lot of the courses I'll be taking over the next two years will be like this unfortunately since sooo many people have to take them.
Physics, my other bio classes, the second part of general chemistry, and orgo are all supposed to be big lecture classes here.
whats ur major?
@RandomUsername: No, I'm going to become a kawaii anime idol desu~
Can I be your manager
Whoa, 400 people per lecture?
Man, not only is the process of applying to a college freaking me out, not to mention worrying about getting accepted, having stuff like this dam. I think I'ma just try to join the military.
Seriously?

@Economy: I suppose so. I get the whole independent learning thing. That isn't a foreign concept to me.
It's just... aggravating more than anything.
I pay good money and busted my ass of to go to a good school, to get crammed in a lecture hall with 400 other people like myself to only have a professor and TAs who aren't even making an effort. Now I know professors are there to do research and not teach or whatever, but come on.
I have another big lecture class with about 250 people in it but the professor is absolutely wonderful.
Learn the information yourself or get a tutor, most colleges offer them for free... It's college and time to grow up
i don't even know. first time i've been in classes that have 300+ students. i hate general classes where other majors also have to take them. i only love those specific to my major.
im going to be moving in in 3 days! idk i heard most lecture halls are like 200+ kids but once you move up to higher level classes it's less people. thank god for AP classes though, i got exempt from gen ed Bio and chem
Nothing you can do. Usually professors will have Office Hours, use those and get to know them too, chances are they will be teaching an upper year course. Stick with it for years, and that class of 400 will dwindle to ~25-45 by 4th year. Don't just be another face in the lecture hall.
Idk
Refer to the TA and follow the curriculum, even if it means I have to find whatever is required in a textbook by myself.
