Is my job being unfair? Can I argue this?

Alright, I would be in college right now but due to some financial issues this semester, I had to withdraw for a bit and I picked up a job at the Walmart just down the street. The only position they had available at the time was 3rd shift maintenance so that's what I got. I hate it and I have dealt with it the past 5 months. Since I've worked there one new person was hired in on maintenance a month and a half after me.

A few weeks ago a day time position opened and I applied for it. Nobody else showed interest in it so I was thinking I'd get off maintenance. Then the last day somebody else put it for it and they didn't even consider me because the other guy had "seniority". So I just accepted it and back to maintenance I went. The other day, one of our 3rd shift Dairy workers said he was transferring to Sams Club sometime next week. They needed a new worker for Dairy so I had been thinking finally I get off maintenance. But what do you know, they come in and ask the guy that was hired in after me if he wanted to be moved. He said yes and they told him he had to put in a request form and after he did they'd move him over there.

WHAT THE ACTUAL ****? I have been asking to be moved since day 1. I had the chance, but didn't due to somebody else having seniority. Another position opens, and I have seniority for it but they are giving it some guy I have seniority over? I'm pretty pissed this is some flipping bullshat

You're lucky you even have a job. I need a summer job but no place will even give me an interview. I guess its my fault that I didn't get much experience in high school but I didn't think entry level jobs needed that much experience.

I like how everyone is automatically blaming Walmart when it is probably the OPs lack of competence or marketability that is preventing him to get promoted to a better job.

Alright well I talked to a manager last night and explained the situation and how it is kind of unfair. He said he would see what he could do. As I was leaving he asked if I still had it in the system under my preferences and I said yes. Starting to think that they might tell the other guy no and put me over there.

If they do isn't that even more unfair to him? Offer it to him and then tell him no? That's like offering a guy $20 if eat moldy cheese and then hand him the lint in your pocket. I mean I want the spot and all but now it seems unfair to both sides. I mean the guy wants off maintenance like me and knows what he is doing, but I want off even more and I'm a harder worker than him, with less experience over there.

No, but I wear glasses. I'm like the only one on 3rd who wears glasses. Can I bring up "Is it because I wear glasses? Are you discriminating against me for what I have to wear to see?" and see where that gets me?

That would be awesome if he was cause that would be an easy lawsuit for him to win

They probably know you're the only in your position and don't want to move you. I would quit and look elsewhere.

Be your own boss, then you can have any position you like: CEO, COO, CFO, CTO, manager, hot front desk secretary, etc.
Your mistake is thinking they are looking out for you. There may be some managers that do but those are rare. You should try to find a better job if you don't like what you're doing now and/or go back to school and learn skills that will allow you to get the job you want.

I would quit, but the thing that is keeping me there is the fact that they have a scholarship for employees. That would help out a lot for when I go back to college in the fall. Are there other companies that offer scholarships for their employees?

Start looking for a new job. Unfair? Yes but that's walmart, the lowest of the low.
