Why dont we have a Tank Class?
I have a 400 DEF overall, and of course it's useless to me but what if there was a class that damage scales off Defence? That class would make DEF scrolls worth something again and stop making % DEF useless. I see all these warrior jobs with plus this def and plus that def but no one builds def anyways until that class....
So what do you think? Come up with some abilities and skills and we'll put them together to make the most coolest class ever!

I honestly wish they had a class that uses a giant shield as their primary weapon, and was more of a support class.
Kinda like Goofy from kingdom hearts. I love that he just fought with a shield.
inb4 BLUE patch and pallies revamped into needing defense points for DPS...
To all the posters, maybe we don't need a tank class necessarily, but maybe paladin's secondary stat should be de instead of dex. There could also be a def cap removal for paladins, I think most paladins can hit the def cap pretty easily already anyhow.
@Mewtwo:
If they do the same would they raise avoid/acc/ect?
Mihile and paladin got the def shield thing going on anyway.
I would be more interested in avoid(DB kinda) or accuracy
(Marksman). Only thing you can compare it to would be like
a mp mage. Sounds flimsy though~
Technically..paladins are the most tanky things in the game I'm sure. They always guard and rarely get hit but when they do it's only a small amount of damage lol. Plus they have 30 second invincibility as a hyper skill and revive for other party members at 4th job.

I wish it wasn't a tank made of tin foil.
They sorta tried doing this with paladins by giving them that skill that shares their defense. As others have said though, it's completely pointless when there are so many OHKO attacks in the game. Even if they were given skills to reduce OHKO moves, it would only be a matter of time before they started adding attacks that could bypass the reduction.

lolololol this
In a game that has a majority of players soloing rather than grouping , being a one man tank would be pointless, especially when most bosses do %hp damage. The only way it'll work is if defense starts reducing a % amount from this % HP, and if there's bosses that actually create a need for a tank to protect the party.
While this has been implemented in other games (eg: LoL), it would probably be not as popular in Maplestory. The main reasons people play maple is for the damages or the mobility. If a class was to have superb defenses it would need a weakness in damage or mobility to be balanced (not implying maplestory is a balanced game) Thats why you see these scalings mostly on supports in league (or on tanks). It is a cool idea though, just probably not gonna be a popular one.
Hayatos have a conversion of defense into %total damage.
Uhh, well if this class is to have any chance of functioning, it'll need a passive to raise it's def caps, and it will need some sort of "screw your % based damage" type ability, because otherwise, it would be completely pointless. Also an agro skill would be nice, something like "this boss can only attack me for x amount of time" with "y amount of time" as a cool down where y>x. I dunno, I don't think a tank class really lends itself well to ms the way they typically do in other games.
a mechanic can turn into a tank
If it scales off of defense then it would have a lot of attack and defense, so I'm not sure.
Besides, we have Paladins.
Edit: And kind of Shadowers.
How are shadowers? Just because of meso guard? Its basically useless in bosses and whatnot.
OT: What would be the point of a class that scales off of wdef? The bosses these days deal %hp
First of all ^paladins
2nd a good amount of end game bosses
use %hp attack/set amount attacks.
It would basically be like taking paladin to hell mode azwan
and watching them get ohkoed constantly. Also def caps
quite easily so I would wonder how they would do that~
Well with DA they just raised the HP cap
Whats the point of having a class that scales off defense when it has a cap?
Defense cap can be increased or completely removed for that specific class, so its not a valid point.
While the idea of a class based on defense is good, I dont think a tank one would work on MapleStory due to the game mechanics.
Whats the point of having a class that scales off defense when it has a cap?
@Above: Its gonna die from RA bosses because their attacks scales off hp.
TO tie with that I was always thinking abot some sort of Guardian class who focuses on defense for defending and attacking
One skill it would have is summoning two stone knights on both sides that absorb damage and then attack for some number of seconds.
Basically my idea would be a majority of attacking skills would be summoning some sort of statues or something like that on each side of the character that take damage and then attack.
However, my idea for the class would make it really slow at leveling.
EDIT: I think giving it shield attack would make it mobbable.
some sort of shield crash or bash
However, I have an idea making this class EXTREMELY slow but have the ability to TANK so much.
It made me think of the Sentinel paradigm in fInal Fantasy 13.
One skill is called Provoke and it causes the enemy to only attack that person who uses Provoke.
da build damage off HP
I mean paladins don't really use defence as a primary stat or anything, but that's literally what they are- a tank class .-. They even have a hyper that literally makes them invincible for 30 seconds
Well I guess mechanics are literal tanks though
Paladin and DA aren't tanks?
