Legacy of what use to be?

Hmm I'm just curious in your guys opinion what do you think was the major downfall of the population of the maple story community?

This indeed.
On Saturday, when those stupid Super Megaphones spammers were running on repeat for hours, I was very bothered--although at the same time not too surprised--when a GM logged on ignored the S'Mega spamming and held an event in Lith Harbour like as if nothing was happening.
Then, when it over, they thanked the participants and vanished.
I've seen the GMs ban players for a lot less when they're on running events and yet they did nothing about this. If that isn't turning a blind eye, then I don't know what is. -_-
The spamming continued into Sunday, and although I haven't played yet today, I bet they're still running.

^Pretty much this, with the potential/million other issue aside, what make me lost interest in ms is them letting hackers roam free for 7 years. The company reputation is just trash now and might haunt them on future game lanuch(Maplestory 2.etc),They need to change fast, I don't think people would want hackfest story 2.

@fmonglobal: I guess what earns your respect is different to mine.

Although I understand what you're getting at, the fact that their customer service is so bad and that players can spend hundreds of dollars upgrading one ASPECT of ONE VIRTUAL ITEM absolutely boggles me (whoever designed this system is a genius money maker).

Absolute respect, raking in the money while doing comparatively little to no work lmao.

@ScuXxMuji: A business's main objective is to generate profit, but customer service and the community and players' interest is also a very high priority. Nexon have neglected this and it shows with all the players leaving.

Financial reports may point to Nexon being very successful but it will not last and if they really want to prove they are a socially responsible and ethical company, they will take better care of their customers and improve their customer service. It may affect them negatively in the short term, but they will prosper down the track.

Only then will they earn mine and many other players' respect back.

@fmonglobal: Nexon is a business. A business' goal is to generate profit.

They've been able to generate INSANE amounts of profit. I find it unbelievable how people are willing to spend HUNDREDS of dollars CUBING ONE ITEM (CUBING - WE HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED TALKING ABOUT SHIELD SCROLLS AND PROTECTION SCROLLS).

Even with the recent miracle time, I've seen people spent $300+ and get 2-3 tier ups, complain on BasilMarket/in my BL and continue on to buy NX the following week.

It is absolutely amazing, the grip that Nexon holds on their player base. Their customer service is unbelievably crap but yet people deal with it and it's become the "norm".

Absolute respect.

The community spiraled down into s**t, when I dont remember but somewhere along the timeline the community just made the game really... boring. Nothing social going on.

Or maybe not, right now Im actually having trouble twisting my mind around what exactly feels so different about this game @x@

Well everything has to come to an end sometime or later, may it be slow or fast.
Definitely hackers and Nexon combined.

I won't go into too much detail, but they're the reason why the meso:NX ratio has gone from 1:20 to 1:100 since 2010.
Right now, you can literally buy 1b Scanian mesos for $10, other servers range from $7-10 per 1b.

Nexon's introduction of the potential system was indeed an amazing business move (mad respect for being able to make Maplers spend $200 and getting close to nothing out of it, yet they come back and buy more NX). But it's also the cause of the population decline since those wonderful potential-free days.
Ultimately Nexon doesn't really care, as long as they're still generating the same income.

League of Legends just happened to be there while MapleStory was dying and ex-Maplers were looking for something else to play and have since stuck to that game (thanks to Riot's awesome customer service) instead of returning to Nexon.

Growing up does indeed play its part in the decline of Maplers, although new players should replace the old ones. But the game's clear "pay-to-win" combined with the past unscheduled server maintenances are definitely turn offs and cause new Maplers to turn their back on this game and try another.
How can you respect what they did to introduce the potential system? I arguably ruined the game and I can't respect a company with such poor ethics and consideration for its players.

Man... yeah I agree hackers and scammers really did ruin the game as a whole.

I remember in happyville there was a event where you have collect stuff and give it to the tree and the tree would drop snowflakes that you give to a npc which had amazing items like chaos scrolls, white scrolls, etc.
I rememberd there was a hacker in every channel waiting for the drops and once it drop they would instantly vac so that no one would get the snowflakes
I dont remember what year this was in but yep you can definitely blame the hackers of this game.
IMO it's how the entire game turned, it used to be more friendly-social. Now it is more about how big your digits are. A shame that such a nice game is going downfall because of all the crap Nexon is driving this game through. People got adjusted to quick leveling, short trips and solo roaming/bossing. The social aspect of this game is completely shattered, R.I.P.
It was the community that turned this game into crap not nexon. All nexon did was see how bad people wanted to be stronger and so they added it in to give the game a fresh feel to the game. Which it did to a certain degree. I used to play back then and yes it was really a party thing to kill bosses because we were all so weak but we did those bosses to make meso to buy better gear to better ourselves. The game was always centered on trying to do things by yourself and when needed with others. The social aspect of this game isn't shattered because I still mainly log on to talk to friends and socialize. It's just the community that threw itself into becoming stronger not nexon. They just applied a "get out of jail free" card into the game.
